San Diego (KGTV)- It’s crunch time for California Republican candidates, wanting the official endorsement from their party. Their last minute pitches and speeches are happening this weekend at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Republican candidates, staff, and volunteers say they are ready to shake things up in Sacramento. “I will be the loyal opposition to the wayward liberals of the Legislature,” Lt. Governor candidate, Cole Harris said, at the candidate forum. “Jerry Brown has certainly left a mark in our state over the years,” Judge Steven Bailey said. The State Attorney General said Brown has not been the leader they had hoped for."We've had eight years of Jerry Brown,” Gubernatorial candidate, John Cox said. “Poverty has soared, the cost of living has soared, taxes have soared, so we're excited for the chance to change all of that."Republican Gubernatorial candidates, John Cox of Rancho Santa Fe, and Travis Allen of Huntington Beach have until Sunday to pitch to the nearly 1,000 member GOP delegation in San Diego this weekend, to get the prized official party endorsement. They only get that if they win 60% of the votes cast at the convention tomorrow. With the endorsement, both men say the will be ready to fight head-on against Democratic frontrunner, Gavin Newsom. And if elected as Governor, both promised to rid both the controversial Gas tax increase the State's Sanctuary law. "These are the issues that affect every single Californian, regardless of political party,” Gubernatorial candidate, Travis Allen said. Allen said he has supported President Trump from the beginning. While Cox did not vote for Trump in 2016, he eventually pledged his support of the President. Both men say Trump's business-oriented approach to leadership is what will save California from what they call Democratic destruction. 1897
SAN DIEGO — Football icon Drew Brees gave a Temecula, California teenager the gift of a lifetime this week. The New Orleans Saints QB surprised Alex Ruiz at a Del Mar flag football event with a prosthetic leg."Surprise," Brees yelled into a microphone.Ruiz suffered a severe leg injury while playing football in October 2017. The quarterback at Linfield Christian School in Temecula was rolling out of the pocket when he was tackled and injured. The injury forced an amputation of Ruiz's foot.Brees presented the teen with a walking prosthetic Friday."If there's anything above cloud nine that's where I'm at right now," Ruiz said, all smiles after Brees asked him what he planned to do first with his new prosthetic.Brees added that once Ruiz gets the hang of it, he'll receive an athletic prosthetic as well with which to begin athletic training. But that didn't stop the two quarterbacks from sharing a quick pass."It's going to allow him to walk around, get around, and then eventually get to the point where he's able to play football again," Brees said. "Because ask him right now and there's no denying the look in his eye that that's what he wants to do." 1250
San Diego (KGTV)- Improved bike lanes are making it easier for cyclists to get around. The new lanes are a part of the city’s effort to protect riders and get more people out of their cars. The city is in the first phase of its Downtown San Diego Mobility Plan. They are hoping to have at least 6 percent of commuters riding their bikes by the end of the project. Jamie Hampton has been riding her bike to work for over ten years. At times, she says she hasn’t felt safe around moving cars. “It’s challenging because you have to kind of figure out how to share a lane with a car.”The city is making it easier for riders to get around the Downtown area with protected bike lanes. White reflector poles separate the lanes. Some have another layer of protection with street parking spaces. There are also designated signal lights for cyclists. The City Council adopted the estimated million mobility plan in 2016. It calls for 9 miles of protected bike lanes in the Downtown area. “It’s a nice balance of how to share a road with a car.”The city hopes to have all three phase of the mobility plan completed by 2021. 1125

He said that or hire a security guard."If grown folks are in a grown folks park then they should let grown folks be grown folks," he said arguing the curfew takes away from the neighbors surrounding the park."You have your low income and your seniors, the seniors spend most of their time out here after midnight... Smoking a cigarette, drinking a coffee enjoying life," he said.Tieken said police are on his side, "they have high hopes that they don't have to come every 15 minutes to this park."City Heights Square Mini Park's nightly curfew is from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Cedar Ridge Mini Park, Montclair Neighborhood Park, North Park Community Park and North Park Mini Park have a curfew from midnight to 6 a.m. 1566
