SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New plans for a development in the Bay Park neighborhood are aimed at providing "transit-oriented" homes amid the region's housing crunch.Protea Properties has plans for the 3.5-acre lot right off Interstate 5, between Clairemont Drive and Morena Boulevard. The site is located across from the future Blue Line Trolley Station.The development director of the project confirms the development includes 156 apartments and 40,000-square-feet of retail and restaurant spaces. Some community members are concerned with the current plans and tell 10News they hope their concerns will be heard and changes will be made. "We're trying to back the city off from slamming us with density and trying to get a project that meets everybody's needs," local James Lamattery said.Lamattery says the community is fighting for more affordable housing units and lower building heights. Right now, the plans call for two, four-story buildings and 16 apartment units for affordable housing. The city is reviewing plans before they vote on required permits. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police officers chased down two drivers in stolen cars, but only one man was arrested early Wednesday morning.According to San Diego Police, officers spotted a BMW that had just been stolen driving down Hotel Circle South in Mission Valley around 2 a.m. They followed the car, which appeared to be following another car, a black Dodge Charger.When officers tried to pull them over, both drivers sped off in different directions.Just when officers thought they lost the BMW, they found it in a Serra Mesa neighborhood. They moved in with their guns drawn and surrounded the car, but no one was inside.Officers eventually found the suspect hiding in a nearby shed and took him into custody.The driver of the Dodge Charger led officers towards Mission Valley, but that car was later found abandoned behind a Verizon store. 847

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Monday identified the suspect who reportedly threatened officers with a knife before being shot in the Midway District last week. According to police, Ryan Bowers, 23, was shot by Officer Matthew Steinbach after raising a knife toward officers. Police responded to the 3100 block of Cauby Street just before 10 p.m. January 3 after a caller said Bowers cut his own throat with a knife before it was taken away. According to police, that’s when Bowers pulled a knife out of his jacket and raised it toward officers. Officers administered medical aid to Bowers until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 1036

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Pounds of marijuana, concentrates and edibles, cash, and handguns were seized from a Pacific Beach pot dispensary Thursday.San Diego Police raided Truly Green, located at 4150 Mission Blvd., at about 8 a.m. for illegally operating the business.The seizure included 57 pounds of high-grade marijuana, more than 1400 marijuana concentrates and edibles, ,100 in cash, and two handguns.Two employees were arrested for possession of marijuana for sale and operating a business without a permit. They were released with a citation.Police said the owners were not present, but police said they will be charged. 637

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly 140 pounds of liquid methamphetamine and two pounds of heroin were discovered inside a vehicle’s gas tank and spare tire at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says.According to the agency, the drugs were discovered after a detector dog alerted officers to the undercarriage of the vehicle around 4:30 a.m. Monday.Following the alert, officers guided the driver, a 52-year-old woman who is a citizen of Mexico and lawful U.S. resident, to a secure location for inspection.RELATED: Previously-deported sex offender arrested by Border Patrol in San DiegoThat’s when, according to CBP, officers found the drugs hidden inside the gas tank and spare tire.The driver was turned over to agents with Homeland Security Investigations while a 71-year-old female passenger was released.The narcotics are estimated to have a value of 5,000. 901
