SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man suffered serious injuries after a scooter crash on the Mission Beach boardwalk late Tuesday afternoon. According to police, the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near Ocean Front Walk and San Luis Obispo Place. Authorities say a 55-year-old man on a bicycle and a 27-year-old man on a scooter collided on the boardwalk."His bike was upside and he was just laying there," said Nicole Ryujin, who saw the aftermath. "He wasn’t moving and at first I was like, 'is this guy okay?'" Police say the 55-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but not life threatening. According to police, the 27-year-old didn't suffer any injuries. Investigators say the scooter rider was headed north on the boardwalk, and the biker was headed south, when they collided. At this time, it's unclear exactly what led to the crash. Traffic investigators questioned the scooter rider on scene. Investigators say there is no criminal investigation at this time. 987

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Fire-Rescue chaplain found himself in need after flames ripped through his apartment in Old Town.Father David Fucci was with a friend last Thursday night when he got a call."My neighbor calls and says, 'Your apartment is on fire'," said Father Fucci.As he raced home, a mix of feelings washed over him. For about seven years, he's served as a volunteer chaplain, consoling victims during tragedy."That night, it felt surreal. Almost like an out-of-body experience. Normally I'm the one driving to the scene, thinking about what I can say," said Father Fucci.Instead, he could only watch as flames claimed his home. "Just kept thinking, don't let it spread to any other apartments and thankfully, it didn't," said Father Fucci.Then, something remarkable happened. As word spread of whose apartment it was, some familiar faces began appearing, including five other volunteer chaplains and a battalion chief."They took the time to put a hand on my shoulders. I knew I was blessed," said Father Fucci.Father Fucci found himself the person receiving comfort. "Sometimes those that give, it's hard to receive ... the compassion, love and help. You learn to let go," said Father Fucci.In the end, the apartment was declared a total loss. Amid the ashes, Father Fucci found something that survived."I found a picture of Mom and Dad. Last picture of them. They died a year later," said Father Fucci.He also discovered something else. He calls it a blessing born from his loss: a perspective that will allow him to better help others at the next scene."Now you have a greater understanding of what they need," said Father Fucci.Father Fucci did not have renters insurance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego County leader is asking the state to look into what she calls the disproportionate placement of sexually violent predators in rural East County. In a letter, Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob asked Attorney General Xavier Becerra to investigate the placements. Jacob says nine out of the 12 predators, dubbed the "dirty dozen" by Jacob, released in the San Diego region have been housed in the communities of Campo, Boulevard and Jacumba Hot Springs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge is considering placement locations for a sexually violent predator convicted of sexual offenses against children between the ages of 4 and 9.Judge Howard Shore issued a written decision Tuesday that a proposed address on the 15000 block of Adams Drive in Pauma Valley was not suitable for the placement of Joseph Bocklett.A news release from the District Attorney said Judge Shore is considering other potential housing options.Bocklett was convicted of three sexual offenses over a 19-year period involving children between the ages of 4 and 9.He was sentenced in 2000 to a 17-year prison term before being committed to Coalinga State Hospital for treatment.Last year, Bocklett petitioned for the Conditional Release Program for sex offenders. He was granted conditional release to a supervised home. "I can certainly empathize with the feeling that people do not want someone like Mr. Bocklett in their community,'' Shore said during last Friday's hearing. ``I would be shocked if anyone wrote a letter saying, `We can't wait to have him living in our community.'
