BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Thursday said some Americans habitually hype up the so-called "China threat" because they need excuses for their expanding military prowess and budget so as to seek regional and global hegemony.
"We once again urge the United States to stop such unilateral and bullying behaviors, and give Chinese and other foreign companies fair treatment," the spokesperson said. "The United States should do more to enhance China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation and promote global economic recovery."
Relevant requirements were also stipulated in the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR, he said.
In the face of the severe impact on the world economy and the marked rise in instabilities and uncertainties of the international situation due to the ravaging COVID-19, Xi said all countries should enhance solidarity and cooperation and uphold multilateralism to counter challenges.
China will speed up fostering a new development pattern where domestic and foreign markets can boost each other, with the domestic market as the mainstay, and form the new institutions of a higher-level open economy.
