People living in the Florida Panhandle are scrambling to prepare their homes and businesses for Hurricane Michael.The Category 2 storm is currently in the Gulf of Mexico, and it’s expected to gain strength as it makes landfall Wednesday.Officials ordered an evacuation by noon Tuesday in Pensacola Beach, but for those residents staying, they are spending the day preparing.Randall King lived through Hurricane Opal, a Category 3 storm that hit the coast in 1995. He says his Pensacola home took in about 6 feet of water during that devastating storm. That’s why he doesn’t take warnings lightly.“If you're that close to the cone of uncertainty, always be certain to be prepared,” he says. However, everyone didn’t spend the day preparing for the storm. A group of people were seen on the beach.“It’s not too bad right now,” says Abisai Avelar, a Pensacola resident. “Just for the thrill of it, for the experience. Couple guys wanted to come out. (KGTV) - A San Diego woman is demanding answers from Phoenix police after her uncle was shot to death by officers outside his apartment.This week, ABC10 News spoke to 18-year-old San Diegan Sadie Whitaker about her family's outrage surrounding the death of her 40-year-old uncle, Ryan Whitaker, who was shot by Phoenix police in May. It was captured on police body camera video that was just released.“I feel like this needs to be heard everywhere. It needs to be national news. It was just wrong,” said Sadie.Police said a concerned neighbor called in to report that Whitaker and his girlfriend may have been having a physical fight inside their Phoenix apartment.In the police body camera video, officers are heard knocking on the door and identifying themselves. Whitaker opens the door and appears to step out with a gun in his right hand which he then appears puts behind his back and lowers to the ground with his left hand visibly in the air. The encounter quickly escalates and shots are heard being fired.Police said the second officer in the video shot Whitaker, believing the first officer was in immediate danger. Whitaker did not fire, they report.Sadie tells ABC10 News that a few days before that, someone had knocked on their door but took off. “This night, when the same thing happened, he brought his gun to the door for protection,” Sadie added.She said his gun was legally purchased and he had no criminal history.After shots were fired, Whitaker's girlfriend appears to become hysterical. She’s heard asking why officers shot him. An officer is heard telling her that Whitaker had just pulled a gun on them. She responds that it’s dark and someone just knocked on the door.An officer is heard saying, “Your neighbor called saying he heard you guys going at it.” She responds, “Literally, we were making salsa and playing Crash Bandicoot so there may have been some screaming from PlayStation but it wasn't domestic violence or anything.”“I do not think [the shooting] was justified whatsoever,” said Sadie.Whitaker's family is calling for the officers to be terminated and face criminal prosecution.“I want there to be awareness and I want people to know that this kind of stuff is going on,” Sadie says.Phoenix Police told ABC10 News that they can’t comment because of pending litigation. PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco, Fla. woman was arrested after deputies say she was passed out drunk at the wheel of a parked car with a 5-year-old child in the back seat.20-year-old Sarah Nisse was found after the girl answered a phone call from her father.He called the 5-year-old via FaceTime and was able to see where the vehicle was parked.He found the car at 2509 Success Dr. and immediately removed his daughter from the vehicle and called 911.Fire rescue arrived and tried to administer aid to Nisse. She didn't say anything but raised a middle finger at them. When deputies arrived, Nisse appeared to be 'heavily intoxicated' and was taken to the Medical Center of Trinity.She blew a .276 and .272 three hours after the incident.Deputies say that without proper supervision, the 5-year-old was at risk of possible injury or death due to a large pond being next to where the car was parked, as well as due to the fact that Nisse was driving while under the influence.She was arrested for child neglect, violation of probation and DUI. She was on probation for willful child neglect in reference to a case in 2015 where she had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old juvenile. 1187

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Two people were shot Friday evening during a football game at Palm Beach Central High School in Florida.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, one of the victims was located on the school property. The second victim was transported to a local hospital by a friend. Officials say both victims are currently being treated at area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown. Gender and ages of the victims have not been confirmed at this time. Initial reports from district personnel indicated the shots seem to have come from outside the stadium, the school district said. Details on this remain under investigation. Dwyer student-athletes boarded the bus and were escorted back to Dwyer High School, according to Kathy Burstein with the School District of Palm Beach County. Unaccompanied students were picked up in the school's bus loop. There were a number of law enforcement officers on site. All students are safe, no students are reported injured, according to a tweet from PBCSD.School district officials present at the football game, including school police, school principal, assistant principals and many others do not report any kind of student altercation prior to shots being fired and no student disruptions leading up to shots being fired were reported either, said Burstein. All district outdoor activities, sporting events, and practices are canceled for the weekend, including third-party rentals of athletic fields, according to the school district. Suspect information and motive are unknown at this time. The shooter is still not in custody, officials say. PBSO says this is not an active shooter situation. Palm Beach County School Board Police have requested PBSO Violent Crimes Division to assume the shooting investigation.  1882
