SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A North Carolina man who raped and murdered a 79- year-old woman in her Normal Heights home more than three decades ago was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Kevin Thomas Ford, 63, was convicted by a San Diego jury last month for the May 20, 1987, murder of Grace Hayden, who was strangled and smothered during the rape, according to Deputy District Attorney Valerie Summers. The prosecutor said Ford worked as a driver for older medical patients in San Diego and had driven Hayden two days before her body was found on the floor of her bedroom. Humane Society veterinarians are working to feed and re-hydrate the dog slowly so as not to damage his body in its current fragile state.According to the organization, it could take between seven and 10 days for the dog to turn a corner and begin to recover. Officers responding to reports of gunfire shortly after 2:50 a.m. on May 21 found Mario ``Tony'' Bullard lying on a street in the 6200 block of Holabird Street suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to San Diego police.Paramedics responded, but Bullard was pronounced dead at the scene. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning in the Midway District, police said.Dispatchers received a call shortly before 5 a.m. from a driver who reported hitting a pedestrian on Sports Arena Boulevard near West Point Loma Boulevard, just south of Interstate 8, San Diego police Officer Scott Lockwood said.The victim, a man believed to be in his 30s, was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Lockwood said.The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but no details about the driver or the vehicle were immediately available, the officer said.The circumstances leading up to the crash were under investigation. 704
