SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Seven patients from Rady Children’s Hospital took a break from their treatment and got in the water with Bottlenose dolphins.SeaWorld trainer Jorge Villa hosted the children for the experience. Villa holds a special place in his heart for Rady Children’s because he was treated there when he was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 12.For many of the children, it’s therapeutic and offers them a chance to forget about whatever health challenges they face and focus on being a kid.“It just brings you into the playful childishness that you have in your heart and in your mind,” said Juliana Abraham, 14. She’s been fighting a rare form of brain cancer.  Her mom says faith, prayer, and a positive attitude have helped Juliana persevere.Rady has been offering the dolphin interaction program to patients since 2008. It was first inspired by SeaWorld dolphin trainer and cancer survivor Joy Clausen-Soto.For more information on the program, contact Rady Children’s Hospital at 858-576-1700. 1038

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Saturday was a picturesque day in San Diego with many people enjoying outdoor dining, but the opportunity is slipping away due to Governor Gavin Newsom’s new stay-at-home orders.“We have a really close community of workers here, and to see it shut down again is really sad,” Abby Pekary said.Pekary has been welcoming guests into Little Italy’s Nonna for more than two years. By Monday, she could be out of a job due to Newsom’s new orders.Pekary is a full-time student at San Diego State University, hostessing to save up to eventually move out of her parent’s house.Her latest obstacle from the state is Newsom’s regional shutdown order, limiting restaurants to takeout or delivery only. The order also forces bars and wineries to close amid COVID-19.“I had a couple people who during the first shutdown they actually moved back to Bay Area because they were living here and just because they were out of a job they had to live with their families,” Pekary added.Unlike the first shutdown in March of 2020, there is no federal stimulus to cushion the fall. Restaurants and employees are left to fend for themselves under the new order. “Of course we're still open for takeout, so if you want to do that, that's always an option for ya.”Restaurants say there likely aren’t enough takers to keep jobs, or at least hours, from being cut. 1364

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Southwest announced Tuesday that the company is offering Californians a special deal on travel throughout the state. Southwest says travelers can buy one-way tickets as low as , but you better be on your toes. The sale only lasts until August 22. According to Southwest: "Purchase from August 21 through August 22, 2018, 11:59 p.m. in the respective time zone of the originating city."The tickets are for travel from September 11, 2018 through February 13, 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police say a Chula Vista woman killed her mother in a Mission Valley office building, then shot herself days later with the same gun.Homicide detectives investigated the 911 call from an office building on Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley on July 22.Officers found Maria Kelly, 66, dead inside her office.RELATED: SDPD: Mother murdered, daughter deadKelly's 34-year-old daughter, Crystal Vasquez, drove to the location hours later.Vasquez went into the restroom of a nearby business and was discovered dead of a gunshot wound.San Diego Police said Vasquez shot and killed her mother the afternoon of July 20. The next day, Vasquez cashed a ,000 check written from her mother's bank account.Police told 10News the Vasquez likely shot her mother after being confronted about stealing money from the family business. Vasquez embezzled money from her mother's Mission Valley accounting business for about a year, according to police. Police believe Vasquez shot herself after learning about the possibility of cameras at the building's entry and exit.A forensic examination confirmed the handgun Vasquez used to commit suicide was the same gun used to kill Kelly.  Video surveillance also showed Vasquez was in the office with Kelly at the time of the murder. 1330

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego State University is going to lose its one and only Christian sorority house. Builders plan to tear it down and put up more housing for students.Alpha Delta Chi sorority sister Madison Zeber walked us through the halls of the sorority house near campus, where 15 women live. The walls are covered with old, handwritten messages of faith. On the outside of the house, there’s a new message. A notice was recently posted by the City of San Diego, of plans to close the only Christian sorority. A private party plans to replace it with 42 units of new housing, intended for students. A neighboring single-family home and fraternity house will also be lost. “It would definitely be heart-breaking,” says sorority sister Carissa Thompson. She was a transfer student and has been living in the house for a year. “Coming here, I definitely wanted to make sure that I had a good, Christian community and I definitely found that here.”The SDSU Research Foundation owns and leases the houses, and tells 10News that the development plans were announced last fall. The sisters won't have to vacate the sorority house until 2020, when their lease is up. “We're trying to fight for this and take it one step at a time,” says the sorority president Alexis Kojo.It’s just one of a series of housing concerns for SDSU students. By this fall, all current, non-local sophomore students must live on-campus. It's called the Sophomore Success Program. Some students say it’s a costly requirement for those of little means, but the school's website reads, “Data show that students who live on campus are better prepared academically, enjoy an increased sense of community and campus connectedness, and graduate at faster rates than those who do not.”Alpha Delta Chi’s lot will not be used for Sophomore Success Program, but that doesn't change much for these sisters. No matter what, they'll have to start packing. “Our way of connecting to the school would be gone. Our sense of identity as Christians on this campus [and] SDSU students would be kind of taken away,” adds Kojo.The sorority says there are public meetings to discuss the redevelopment plans. The sisters say the meetings will take place April 3 and April 10 at the nearby Faith Presbyterian Church. 2278
