MOSCOW (AP) — Russia is boasting that it’s about to be the first country to approve a COVID-19 vaccine, with mass vaccinations planned as early as October using shots that are yet to complete clinical trials. But scientists worldwide are sounding the alarm that the headlong rush could backfire and point to ethical issues that undermine confidence in the Russian studies. Moscow sees a Sputnik-like propaganda victory, recalling the Soviet Union’s launch of the world’s first satellite in 1957. But the experimental COVID-19 shots began first-in-human testing on a few dozen people less than two months ago, and there’s no published scientific evidence yet backing Russia’s late entry to the global vaccine race, much less explaining why it should be considered a front-runner.“I’m worried that Russia is cutting corners so that the vaccine that will come out may be not just ineffective, but also unsafe,” said Lawrence Gostin, a global public health law expert at Georgetown University. “It doesn’t work that way. ... Trials come first. That’s really important.”According to Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund that bankrolled the effort, a vaccine developed by the Gamaleya research institute in Moscow may be approved in days, before scientists complete what’s called a Phase 3 study. That final-stage study, usually involving tens of thousands of people, is the only way to prove if an experimental vaccine is safe and really works. 1467

MILWAUKEE -- Social media is buzzing over a fiasco at a local restaurant involving Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. After Giannis saved the day with a game-winning tip-in with five seconds to go in Sunday’s playoff game against the Boston Celtics – he was ready to celebrate with a victory dinner down the road from the BMO Harris Bradley Center at BelAir Cantina.  But apparently, the restaurant was too busy and did not have enough room to seat him. Patrons inside the restaurant got wind of this and were outraged -- and so was social media. Someone inside the restaurant tweeted a photo of Giannis waiting to be seated and it went viral. That tweet blew up -- getting hundreds of retweets and likes -- with people furious Giannis wasn't seated in a timely fashion. 821

Multiple secretaries of state in battleground states are reporting robocalls to their residents telling them to stay home Tuesday. They are worried the calls are misleading and spreading misinformation on Election Day, and the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are looking into where the calls are originating from. The anonymous robocalls, which appear to come from a local number, tell voters, “Now is the time to stay home. Stay safe and stay home.”Michigan’s Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, tweeted Tuesday morning about the robocalls.“We received reports that an unknown party is purposefully spreading misinformation via robocalls in Flint in an attempt to confuse voters there. I want to ensure everyone who plans to vote in person understands you *must be in line to do so by 8 p.m. today.*” 815
