SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating the discovery of a man's body in the water off Mission Beach.Lifeguards discovered the body about two and a half miles off the shoreline about 11 a.m., officials said. They had been drawn to the area by a fisherman who saw a flock of seagulls in the water and went to investigate.When they found the body, the man was only wearing only board shorts and was found with a chain around his waist.San Diego Police Homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree described the chain as a "half-inch linked chain. It almost looks like someone may wear it as a belt."Lt. Dupree also said there were no obvious signs of trauma or evidence that the body had been weighed down with anything, but the chain was concerning.The man's identity was not immediately released. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews removed a body from Chollas Lake Monday, fire officials said. The man, identified only as Hispanic and in his mid- to late 20s, was found about noon at the lake at 5850 College Grove Drive in the Oak Park neighborhood. Brianna Yasel and her friends were at the lake and realized something was wrong."I couldn't tell what it was; it looked like a rock to me. Once they pulled it out and flipped it over, my friend was able to see the hand at first and it did look like he was under the water for a while. He just didn't look too good," said Yasel."The body was discovered almost in the center of the lake; a passerby said it looked somewhat suspicious. He noticed it moved by an rock cropping," said San Diego Police Lt. Ernesto Servin.San Diego Police are investigating to determine the cause of death and the man’s identity, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The Medical Examiner was also called to the scene.Chollas Lake, which served as a reservoir from 1901 to 1966, is open during daylight hours for recreation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police officials have announced the arrest of two suspects in the murder of a security guard who was gunned down outside of an East Village homeless shelter last month.In a release sent Tuesday night, San Diego Police Department Acting Capt. Martha Sainz said homicide investigators were led to two suspects in the case through witness accounts and collected video footage from the area including from Smart Streetlights.The high-quality images obtained from the Smart Streetlights allowed investigators to identify 47-year-old Floyd Garrett and 40-year-old Johnny Hill as the suspects, according to Sainz."On January 4, 2020, investigators tracked Garrett to Phoenix, Arizona where he was arrested with the assistance of the Phoenix Police Department. Garrett will remain in custody in Phoenix, pending extradition hearings," said Sainz.Hill was located in San Diego and arrested by San Diego Police officers Tuesday without incident. He was booked into county jail for the murder.Both men are from San Diego, according to Sainz.Ernest Lee Buchanan, 44, was killed on Dec. 28 outside the Alpha Project shelter on Imperial Avenue. Buchanan was returning from taking a meal break when someone approached him and opened fire. Buchanan was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries a short time later. 1344

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Lifeguards and firefighters responded to Blacks Beach on Sunday to rescue an injured paraglider from a ravine.The 27-year-old woman, who is a pilot, was teaching an advanced training course for paragliding when she lost lift and her parachute collapse, according to lifeguards.Witnesses told lifeguards that the woman tried to brace her impact with her legs as she landed into a ravine next to a popular trail called "Citizens Trail."Lifeguards say the woman was far from the trail when she landed and San Diego Fire-Rescue was called to perform a technical rescue to lift her up the trail.The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital, though the extent of her injuries was not clear, lifeguards said. 734
