This is real, you know."Nurse Egan said that she gets that some people don't like wearing masks, that breathing through them isn't always easy."But seeing these people die that can’t breathe, it starts to take a toll on you – and you feel so frustrated that they didn’t take it serious, you know. I can’t tell you how many patients that we’ve had that they contracted it at a ballgame or at a family affair of some sort, you know, some birthday parties or dinners," Egan said.In her case, she hasn't seen her own grandparents in months -- because these days, she says, require us to all be willing to make sacrifices."I’m giving these patients my all. I’ve sat with them. I’ve held their hand as they died because family couldn’t be here," Egan said. "And it starts to hurt."And if you could just stop one case by wearing a mask or staying home when you didn’t have to go out, it would help us just so much. AURORA, Colo. -- For a two-and-a-half-month-old baby, Huntleigh has gone through a lot. She was born with her organs outside her body due to a rare birth defect called Omphalocele. "Omphalocele is a developmental anomaly that is a failure of the normal enfolding of the baby during development,” said Dr. Ken Liechty, a pediatric and fetal surgeon at Children's Hospital Colorado. Basically, omphalocele means organs like the stomach, bowel, and intestines are outside the baby’s abdominal wall, but still inside a sack. Surgeons are challenged with assessing each individual case and getting those organs back into the baby’s body. Thankfully, for Huntleigh, that surgical correction was possible almost immediately after birth. "Her organs and intestine were slowly reduced back into her abdomen – similar to rolling up a tube of toothpaste where you’re slowly pushing things back down into the abdomen and then closing the muscles over it,” Dr. Liechty said. Colorado is the latest state to move forward with a red flag law.Since the Parkland shooting, at least 9 states have passed laws allowing police to take guns from people who pose a significant threat to themselves or others.However, some members of law enforcement are fighting back. “What I’m refusing to do is enforce a law I believe, and I believe my constituent base is in agreement,” says Sheriff Steve Reams with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in Greely, Colorado. “I can't enforce a law I believe goes against our state constitution or our federal Constitution.” Sheriff Reams is likely the loudest voice opposing Colorado’s red flag law. Half of the state’s county governments have passed resolutions, saying they don't want to enforce the law, which allows people to flag authorities about others who may be suicidal or dangerous. Police would then be able to take their guns. Critics argue gun owners don't have a fair chance to defend themselves, before their weapons are confiscated. “I don't believe this bill is constitutional,” Sheriff Reams says. “I've said that many times over.
