SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 29-year-old Cal Fire firefighter who died Monday after a training hike is being remembered. Yaroslav Katkov was hiking Sunday with his crew from Cal Fire / San Diego County Fire Station 16 in De Luz when he had a medical emergency, Cal Fire Director Thom Porter said. Katkov was flown to Temecula Valley Hospital in Riverside, where he died Monday morning. His cause of death was not specified. “On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our sincere condolences to CAL FIRE Firefighter Yaroslav Katkov’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. It’s the work of brave firefighters like Yaroslav that keep our communities safe, and we are deeply grateful for his service,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 74-year-old man reportedly hit a bicyclist with his truck in La Mesa Tuesday before leaving the scene thinking he simply hit a curb, police say. According to police, the crash happened on the 7000 block of University Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the 74-year-old was driving his 1994 GMC pick-up truck when he turned right onto Harbinson Avenue and struck the 21-year-old bicyclist. Police say the cyclist was in a designated bicycle lane. The man kept driving, thinking he hit a curb, according to authorities. “When contacted by the police the driver of the pick-up truck was shocked to learn that he had hit a bicyclist and cooperated fully with the investigation,” La Mesa Police said in a news release. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 20-year-old woman died following a shooting that left three others injured at a party in La Jolla Sunday morning, according to San Diego Police. Police were called to the 7500 block of Draper Avenue near Jack in the Box around 12:39 p.m. after reports of shots fired. According to police, partygoers were standing outside a home in the area when a light-colored sedan drove into the alley and shot the victims. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman and 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds, according to police. Police say both victims were rushed to the hospital where the woman later died. The 23-year-old is in serious but stable condition, police say.Two other victims, both 19-years-old, later showed up at different hospitals with gunshot wounds and are in stable condition, police say. The suspects are still at large and police say they have no description at this time. The victims haven’t been identified.
