SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Rancho Bernardo family's home has become a must-see experience for their neighbors. Inspired by Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, the Loveless family has created a walk-through Halloween event that has grown bigger and bigger each year. She has recreated many of the iconic characters from the popular ride, as well as adding other spooks and haunts.For creator Katherine Loveless, it brings her back to her childhood. "I grew up on a city street that had a lot of haunted houses like this, so I grew up with it," Loveless said.Loveless and her husband, Bernard, began work on this year's Loveless Manor in August. They have created panels, which serve as moveable walls to create a maze-like path that runs through their yard. The family put a lot of thought into how to adjust their plans for the pandemic.“Last year we did kind of a smaller, tight trail that went in and out the same gateway," Bernard said. "We knew that wasn’t an option and we needed to have the whole trail outside and have more space between groups.”Loveless Manor is only open Halloween night. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A jury deadlocked Monday in the second trial of a former Navy commander accused of trying to rape a military colleague.The alleged victim said John Michael Neuhart II sexually assaulted her after they spent time drinking and hanging out with colleagues downtown in 2016.The woman said Neuhart took off her pants and underwear and was physically violent inside her Valencia Park home.RELATED: Mistrial declared in trial of former Navy commanderIn a cell phone video recorded by the defendant, the woman can be heard telling Neuhart to "stop" as he tries to get her to open the door about 3 a.m."I've wanted you for a while," Neuhart tells her. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A recent bout with the flu nearly turned deadly for a San Carlos man when it took an unexpected turn.Five weeks ago, the usually healthy 58-year-old Dave Truby came down with the flu."Fever, nausea, inability to sleep ... body soreness," said Dave's brother, Mike.Mike his brother says Dave tried to fight through it. Some five days later, Dave went to an ER, but left because of the wait for beds. That same night at home, his brother found him in bad shape."Literally shaking in a fetal position," said Mike Truby.At the hospital, Mike received some devastating news. His brother's kidneys were failing, and the MRI showed brain damage from a massive stroke. "The brain wasn't getting clean blood. It was shutting down. The whole body was shutting down. They said it didn't look good," said Mike.Loved ones and friends braced for the worst."I said my prayers and breathed deep," he said.Those prayers were answered in gradual fashion. His kidneys started working and Dave started responding."The last two weeks, he moved his head, blinked, and mouthed words. Wheeled my mom into the hospital room a week ago, and he looked up and mouthed, 'Mom.' Gives us a lot of hope," he said. "You never think the flu is going to impact your life in a possibly terminal way."Much of his prognosis remains uncertain, but Mike is optimistic, though he's still a bit in shock over how this came about.Two recent studies suggest the flu can trigger strokes and lead to a prolonged risk lasting months. In Dave's case, he will survive his stroke. "Very thankful and very grateful. My brother has always been a stubborn, forceful man ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man claimed four off-duty San Diego Police officers beat up him outside of a local bar.“I have a laceration on the back of my head, three staples, a lot of bruises a lot of cuts on the face,” said Jonathan Felix.Standing in his attorney’s office, Jonathan Felix described a November night he’ll never forget."All I remember is waking up in my own pool of blood a few times,” Felix told 10News.Felix said that after working a shift at a restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter, he stopped by a Mission Valley bar for a drink.He said he lives nearby and uses its parking lot because parking in the area is scarce.According to Felix, before he headed home for the night, he saw four men standing near his car. He said he didn’t know them, but wanted to make sure the valuables he had in his vehicle were safe.He said after a few interactions with the guys, they didn't leave and appeared to be intoxicated.He claimed the men never identified themselves as San Diego Police officers."I felt threatened for my life,” Felix said.Felix's attorney said at some point, Jonathan Felix pulled a gun and held it at his side. The officers surrounded him, and the situation escalated.The San Diego Police department saw it differently, calling the off-duty officers victims of assault with a deadly weapon. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A rash of mail tampering incidents has led to missing money and an unusual M.O.On Winnebago Avenue in late June, Kelly Craig was standing in front of her home talking to a neighbor."Around 10:30 a.m., the mail carrier dropped off the mail in front of me," said Craig.A few minutes later, Craig got her mail and noticed something. One of her envelopes was sliced open on the side. "Looks like a razor blade slit the side," said Craig.Inside, she found a birthday card from her mother, mailed from Montana. The usual money was not there. A call to mom revealed 0 in cash should have been inside."Felt panicked and really sad the money was missing, and my mom was really upset," said Craig.Craig wasn't alone. That same day, less than two miles away, her daughter-in-law went to get her mail."She got a wedding card from my sister, and it had cash in it as well," said Craig.The 0 that was inside was gone. That envelope was also sliced open on the left side, but there was one difference. The side and back of the enveloped were resealed with tape."Clearly trying to cover up their stealing of the money," said Craig.When Craig and her daughter-in-law reported it to postal authorities, they say they were told of similar recent incidents, including one if the College Area.
