JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi legislators have voted to remove a Confederate battle emblem from their state flag. Mississippi’s House and Senate voted Sunday to retire the flag adopted in 1894. It's the last state flag that includes a Confederate symbol that many people condemn as racist. Republican Gov. Tate Reeves has said he will sign the bill. The change comes amid widespread protests over racial injustice. Mississippi has a 38% Black population. A commission would design a new flag that cannot include the Confederate symbol but must have the words “In God We Trust.” Voters will be asked to approve the new design in the Nov. 3 election. 655

(KGTV) - Crews worked to clear flooding on the campus of UC San Diego caused by a heavy storm moving through the county.Campus police responded just after 6:30 a.m. and placed sandbags near the entrance of the Student Health and Wellness Center. During that time, the water was about ankle deep to the officer’s boots. There were also reports of a parking garage flooded. JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested Tuesday morning after reportedly stabbing a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department K-9 and spraying deputies with bear spray. Deputies were called to the 15000 block of Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul around 10 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a man walking around a vehicle talking to himself. When deputies arrived, they made contact with the man, identified as Richard Lechuga, 29, of San Diego, sitting in a vehicle. When deputies approached Lechuga, he reportedly sprayed three of them with bear spray through an open window. Deputies say Lechuga then brandished what appeared to be a knife and a handgun and stabbed a K-9 in the head and face. Deputies were able to take Lechuga into custody after using less-lethal shotgun rounds, pepper balls and a Taser. The K-9 was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The deputies were also treated on scene and Lechuga was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lechuga was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, assaulting a police animal and resisting arrest. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ten people were asked to quarantine after a potential COVID-19 exposure at the Kansas City Chiefs' season opener, the Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department announced Thursday.According to the department, one person who watched the game from the group's box tested positive for the virus one day after the game.The department said everyone who was around the individual was notified and have agreed to quarantine.The Chiefs said staff who interacted with the person who tested positive wore personal protective equipment.On the field, so far every player and coach on the Chiefs and the Houston Texans teams have tested negative for the virus.One Arrowhead Stadium groundskeeper also tested positive.The Chiefs said in a statement Thursday morning they are cooperating with the health department."Compliance with the protocols remains a key component to making this plan effective.
