(KGTV)-- Hundreds of strangers came together Sunday morning to clean up the aftermath of Saturday night's La Mesa riots.There is a sense of love and support Sunday morning in downtown La Mesa. Strangers worked collaboratively to reverse the effects of what transpired Saturday. What began as a peaceful demonstration quickly turned into a violent protest. By early afternoon, people were blocking Interstate 8 and taking out their frustrations on SWAT Bearcat vehicles.The pandemonium continued into the night. Police deployed tear gas, protesters set cars and local shops on fire. Looters took advantage of the chaos."[It was] just a crazy scene," La Mesa property owner Tony Gaipa said. He said he was one of the lucky ones. "If you're in front of your building, they kind of left you alone, but the building next door didn't have anybody, and they would just pop the glass," Gaipa said. 10News met John Douglas as he was cleaning up in front of his wife's workplace-- an engineering firm that is now burned to the ground. "I saw signs last night like 'Racism Sucks' and 'Black Lives Matter.' Well, what about the black lives that got affected by this?"As an African American man, he understands people wanting justice, after seeing so much of the opposite. But he says what happened Saturday is not the answer."We can't do stuff like this. This is not helping. It's just wrong," Douglas said. He and hundreds of others spent hours sweeping the asphalt, painting over the graffiti, and drilling over broken walls to repair their beloved downtown. "I've heard nothing but positive things from everyone today," Douglas said. "Couple of bad comments from people driving by, but that's one bad seed. If that doesn't spread, there is no cancer. Mike Lee, R-Utah, appeared at Judge Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing in-person on Monday and delivered his opening remarks without a mask.On Oct. 2, Lee announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He was one of about a dozen high-ranking government officials — including President Donald Trump — who attended Barrett's Sept. 26 nomination ceremony at the White House and later contracted the virus.Lee said he had received a letter from Congress's attending physician, Dr. Brian Monahan, clearing him to return to his in-person duties — though the letter did not note that Lee had tested negative for the virus."Based upon current CDC guidelines, you have met criteria to end COVID-19 isolation for those with mild to moderate disease," Monahan's letter read. Graham's refusal to take a test forced a change in format for the weekend debate.During his opening comments, Leahy claimed that Republican senator's aversion to COVID-19 tests was a political tactic to remove any risk that would delay Barrett's nomination until after election day.In his opening remarks, Graham said that his committee had consulted with Monahan and the Capitol architect officials to set up the hearing room "in a fashion we can safely do our business."Following senators' opening statements, Graham explained that the Capitol architect had deemed the hearing room to be in compliance with CDC social distancing guidelines. He said that he wanted to make sure the room was safe but added that like the rest of America, the Senate needed to get "back to work."He also added that he had tested negative "last Friday" following brief contact with Lee, and said that he would not be tested for the virus at the request of "political opponents."Earlier this year, Monahan asked senators to wear masks while on the Senate floor. (See the video above and below.)Raw footage of bodycam footage would be released for four officers involved in the arrest of Amaurie Johnson on May 27, according to La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis.Last week, video surfaced showing an argument between Johnson and an officer escalate at the Grossmont Trolley Station. The officer is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position onto a bench during the video. Eventually, Johnson is handcuffed and told he is being charged with assaulting an officer.Vasquez added that the officer involved in the video has been an officer for about three years. He added that while Johnson was initially stopped for smoking in a trolley area, he wasn't charged with that when he was arrested.Johnson also denied in a separate press conference after city officials spoke that he was smoking. (Press conference below.)“For that situation to escalate the way it did, and for the cop, you know, to stand firm in his beliefs that I should be detained or taken in with no prior evidence or reasoning, I think that should be seen by the people,” Johnson told Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin.He said he was waiting for his friend at the trolley stop, near a building where that friend lives. He added that the officer started questioning him and that he gave the officer the information that he wanted.Johnson adds that he didn't resist or assault anyone."I feel as though people that look like me, um, feel the same way I do and we're tired of it. LAKELAND, Fla. -- A Florida bus attendant has been arrested for child abuse, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say Brenda Nelson, 65, of Polk City has been charged with one count of child abuse for reportedly striking a special needs child on a school bus. On Wednesday, November 8 at about 4:23 p.m. the Transportation Safety Specialist told deputies a citizen complaint was received from a witness who reported she saw a bus attendant strike a female student on the head. The witness was not riding the bus. The witness advised officials that the incident took place on Wednesday, November 8 at approximately 3:58 p.m. The bus transports special needs children from the Doris Sanders Learning Center in Lakeland to their homes throughout Polk County, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies reviewed video footage that shows Nelson attempting to help a special needs child off of the bus. In the video, deputies say the victim was strapped to her seat by a "Houdini Harness" which is designed to significantly restrict her movement and mobility. At about 3:58 p.m., Brenda Nelson is seen on video walking by the victim and hitting her on the top of her head with an open left hand and saying "I'm gonna slap that tongue out of your mouth when I get up there."Two minutes later, the video shows Nelson walk behind the victim's seat, grab the victim by her hair and violently shake the victim's head back and forth and to the side, approximately four times. Deputies say after shaking the victim's head, Nelson was seen pulling something behind the victim's seat in an effort to tighten her harness. The victim attempted to reach behind her seat in the direction of Nelson and Nelson slapped the victim on the hand twice, according to the affidavit. According to the arrest affidavit, Nelson told the bus driver, Bradley Mckean, to take the victim home first, changing the regular bus route. Nelson was seen sitting next to the victim for the remainder of the bus ride and it appeared as if she was attempting to push the victim down into the seat to further limit her mobility. Deputies interviewed Nelson the following day. Nelson told deputies she did not remember hitting the victim on the head. She told deputies she was trying to get another child off the school bus and the victim kept on beating on the window and trying to get up out of her seat. Deputies did not observe the victim beating on the window of the school bus or acting in a disruptive manner as described by Nelson. Brenda stated, "I guess I done it. I didn't remember hitting her." Brenda also stated, "I must have just lost it. I don't remember doing that. I would never hit one of those kids."Brenda Nelson was arrested and transported to Polk County Jail.Due to the Veterans Day holiday, the Sheriff's Office does not have access to the video mentioned in the affidavit. The Polk County School Board released the following statement:  3005
