The NHL announced plans on Monday to resume play on August 1 with training camp slated to get underway next week.Currently, the NHL is in “Phase 2” of its reopening plan, which allows players to practice on a voluntary basis at team facilities. On July 13, full-team practices will be held at team practice facilities or arenas.On July 26, teams will travel to two hub cities in advance of a 24-team tournament slated to begin August 1. The CBC and Sportsnet both report that Toronto and Edmonton will serve as the two “hub cities” for resumption of play. The cities will likely be chosen as coronavirus cases are declining in Canada while increasing in the United States.Sixteen of the NHL’s 24 teams will participate in a qualifying round for this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. During the qualifying round, the top eight teams will play three games a piece for seeding purposes.Also on Monday, the league announced that 23 players tested positive for the coronavirus. The group says this is the most inventory they have seen in Manhattan in 14 years of keeping track.July’s spike of 13,117 available units is an increase over June’s inventory of 10,789.For context, July 2020’s inventory is nearly 122 percent higher than last year; in July 2019 there were roughly 5,900 available apartments.The group also says July had the biggest year-over-year drop in median rent price in nearly nine years. The median rental price for an apartment in Manhattan, including anything from a studio to a 3-bedroom, was ,320 in July, and was ,595 in July 2019.The report also tracks the Queens and Brooklyn rental market. And then there's the building's size and scope, which rivals some of the neighboring Smithsonian museums on the National Mall, and the top-floor view of the Capitol Dome."Some people think we're coming here to have an influence on Congress. Who doesn't come here to have an influence on Congress," said Steve Green, the chairman of the museum's board.As President of Hobby Lobby, Green has already made an impact in Washington and around the country when the Supreme Court in 2014 sided by a 5-4 vote with his company over the Obama Administration, ruling the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate to be a violation of the family-owned, for-profit business' religious freedom.But Green says any influence the Museum of the Bible may have on members of Congress who come to view the exhibits is only a happy byproduct of the real reason why the museum found its way to its Washington location. According to Green, the museum's leadership selected the city for the capital's foot traffic, not politics, and executive director Tony Zeiss says their settling on a building so close to the Capitol "was simply coincidence." The museum, which opens Friday after seven years of planning, focuses on the history, stories, and impact of the Bible, and includes interactive features like a space re-creating Jesus's first-century village.But the museum doesn't shy away from American politics, either, with exhibits detailing the Bible's importance from 17th century Puritan settlers to the 20th century civil rights movement, and how the Bible was used to justify both pro- and anti-slavery stances that drove America into Civil War."We want people to see how it was used for the good, the bad, and the ugly," says Norm Conrad, the museum's curator for Americana and Biblical Imprints.If there's any lesson on today's politics and culture visitors should take away, the museum's leaders aren't telling. The NFL and the Players Association announced Tuesday there were eight new confirmed positive tests among players and 11 new confirmed positives among other personnel in the latest round of testing for COVID-19. The test results are from October 11-17.The report does not identify which teams the players are on, or which roles the other personnel serve.
