(AP) — A couple whose flattened trailer tire accidentally started a massive fire in Northern California has received more than 100 cards and letters with supportive messages telling them not to feel guilty.The outpouring of support for an 81-year-old man and his wife started after Rachel Pilli made a Facebook post offering to forward compassionate messages to the couple, the Record Searchlight in Redding, California, reported Wednesday.Pilli doesn't know the couple, but said a firefighter who knows them told her the woman blames herself and cries day and night. It was 67 percent contained as of Wednesday.Pilli said she has received more than 100 cards and letters and they keep coming. Blake Farenthold announced he's resigning from the House of Representatives effective Friday, a few months after news broke he used taxpayer money to pay a settlement to a former aide who accused the Texas Republican of sexual harassment and other improper conduct.After his announcement, the National Republican Congressional Committee, which works to elect GOP candidates to the House, requested he pay back the money that was used for the settlement."I hope Blake is true to his word and pays back the ,000 of taxpayer money he used as a settlement. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Sheriff’s sex crimes task force is investigating reports of a Ramona family who offered free train rides to families at their home, despite the presence of a registered sex offender.The Green family’s miniature railroad was years in the making. Recently, the family invited the Ramona community to visit the property.However, the Megan’s Law website reports 45-year-old Christopher Green, who lives at the home with his parents, is a registered sex offender. His convictions include lewd acts with a child under 14, the Megan’s Law site indicates.10News went to the Greens’ home to ask why the family didn’t let the public know about their son’s background. Green’s father would not go on camera but said his son has paid his dues, the incident was in the past, and the family is moving on. He added there would be plenty of supervision at the holiday train rides and said there’s more to his son’s conviction than meets the eye. Green’s father also said his son has a learning disability.The Sheriff’s Department issued a statement which reads in part, “The sexual assault felony enforcement task force was made aware of the event and has opened an investigation. RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) – It was a nightly ritual. Steve Faught would put his dog, Riley, in his old Ford pickup and take him to a nearby baseball field to play fetch.  On his way Thursday night, he stopped by Stage Stop Liquor and Gas to pick up a six-pack of beer. But he never made it to the field. Faught was found at the gas station with a major injury to his neck, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. He was airlifted to a hospital for surgery but did not survive. His older brother, Jerry Faught, described him as funny, with a warm personality. “To him, life was a good place,” he said. “He was just the kind of person you’d like to know.” Faught heard the news from Steve’s wife, who called him at his home in Portland. His older brother instincts kicked in. “I couldn’t help him. I couldn’t save him. That’s hard,” he said. Homicide detectives are trying to piece together what happened and what led up to the altercation, but as of Friday morning they had not been able to locate any witnesses or surveillance video. The suspect, 26-year old Jarrett Wishnick, has been arrested for murder. 1169
