BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Growth of China's foreign exchange reserves are slowing as the total reached 2.4543 trillion U.S. dollars by the end of June, up 15.1 percent year on year, the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, announced on Sunday.Statistics from the central bank show China's foreign exchange reserves increased by 7.2 billion U.S. dollars in the second quarter, a drastic decrease compared to the last quarter in 2009, when reserves grew by 126.5 billion U.S. dollars.Reserves in the first quarter increased by 47.9 billion U.S. dollars.The PBOC also said the declining euro was the major reason behind the slowing growth in foreign exchange reserves.The exchange rate between the euro and U.S. dollar had fallen by nearly 20 percent between the end of 2009 and May this year, according to the PBOC.China's basket of foreign exchange reserves include the U.S. dollar, euro, Japanese yen and others.On a monthly basis, reserves increased by 43.4 billion U.S. dollars in April followed by a reduction of 51 billion U.S. dollars in May, while June saw reserves increase by 14.8 billion U.S. dollars.China's gold reserves stood at 33.89 million ounces at the end of June, according to PBOC figures.

BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- China's exports surged by 48.5 percent year on year in May, while the imports climbed 48.3 percent, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) announced Thursday.The growth rate for exports was 18.1 percentage points up from the figure for April, and the import growth rate dipped slightly from 49.7 percent reported in April.Exports totalled 131.76 billion U.S. dollars in May, said a statement on the GAS website, adding imports topped 112.23 billion U.S. dollars.Total foreign trade value rose 48.4 percent from a year earlier to 243.99 billion U.S. dollars in May. GONGSHAN, Yunnan, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers are racing to search for 80 people still missing three days after rain-triggered mudslides hit a remote mountain town in southwest China's Yunnan Province, killing at least 12.By 7 p.m. Friday, rescuers had recovered six more bodies, bringing the death toll to 12, said Hou Xinrong, deputy head of the Drung-Nu Autonomous County of Gongshan, which administers Puladi Township where the mudslides occurred.Hampered by the mountain terrain and persistent rainfall, the rescue efforts had been progressing slowly, Hou said. "Excavators can't proceed to the site and mountain torrents could be triggered at any time due to the downpours."Most of the missing people are employees of the Yujin Iron Mine and residents of Puladi, where the mudslides struck at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.Around Friday noon, a Xinhua reporter saw several soldiers digging in the debris with spades, hoes and sometimes their bare hands in hardest-hit Litoudi Village."We've found a body here, but it was stuck in the mud. We have to be gentle to ensure the integrity of the body," said Yang Pingang, an officer with the Yunnan Provincial Military Area Command. "We want to show our respects to the deceased."
