Faulconer said the city usually takes in an estimated 0 million in sales tax throughout the fiscal year. This year, however, the city is expected to lose million in sales tax alone. Similarly, Faulconer added that the city could lose as much as million in tourism tax. The news comes the day after the famous Hotel del Coronado announced its closure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans will soon have four new restaurants for dining along the San Diego Bay, as Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined Port of San Diego officials and The Brigantine Inc. for the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday for Portside Pier. Portside Pier is an over-the-water dining complex that has been years in the making. It will have four restaurants -- Brigantine on the Bay, Miguel's Cocina, Ketch Grill & Taps and Portside Coffee & Gelato. The dining complex replaced Anthony's Fish Grotto, a staple for 52 years along the bay. The dining complex is now owned by The Brigantine Inc. The restaurants are opening amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of the restaurants have plenty of outdoor space to seat about 500 people, with all social distancing guidelines in place. The complex has capacity for about 1,000 people, once pandemic restrictions are lifted. Portside Pier is the first of several projects along the waterfront, to improve and update the embarcadero. The coffee and gelato bar are already open. The other restaurants officially open on July 28. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Congresswoman Susan Davis wants the Navy to analyze whether there is a national security threat related to sewage spills along the US-Mexico border.The military is set to build a billion Navy SEAL training facility near Imperial Beach. The area has experienced 160 days of sewage spill closures to parts of its shoreline over the past three years, Davis reports.Davis wants a Navy assessment of how construction and future training at the site could be affected by the spills. “We need a whole of government solution to the sewage spills,” said Davis. “We know the environmental and economic impact these spills have. What we don’t know, with the Navy planning to stage training operations in potentially contaminated waters, are the national security concerns. The Navy should take a look at this and coordinate with relevant agencies to assess what can be done to prevent future spills.”Davis, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, wants to include language in this year’s defense bill to get a report from the Navy on the matter.“The Navy’s coastal campus will be vital for national security,” Davis said. “The last thing we want is our elite Navy SEALs training in water contaminated with sewage. Nor do we want training operations delayed.”Davis is requesting the Navy work with the Department of State, the EPA, the Department of Homeland Security, the International Boundary Water Commission, and the Department of the Interior to assess how national security will be affected by future spills and how they can be prevented. 1598

County officials say it’s important to be prepared because topsoil, mud, plant material, and debris can clog culverts and storm drains and damage roadways. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County sheriff's deputies fished a man out of the ocean in Del Mar who they say rammed a Border Patrol truck at the end of a dangerous chase.According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's North Coastal Station, it all started when deputies tried to pull the man over in a blue Smart car driving with no lights or a license plate.The driver failed to stop and took out a road sign then drove the wrong way down Coast Boulevard in Del Mar around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.A few minutes later, the man crashed into a Border Patrol truck at the dead-end of 15th Street. No one was inside the truck at the time.Border Patrol agents spotted the driver running towards the beach.The man jumped over the bluffs' edge and plunged naked into the water, where he spent two hours in the surf.He was taken into custody after he was fished out of the ocean by a Border Patrol boat around 4:15 a.m.Deputies are currently attempting to identify the suspect. 982
