SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students and staff at Coleman University are rushing to gather documents and information to move forward with their degrees and careers before the university shuts down August 5.Each person who walks through the reflective double doors with their own story, "I was going to graduate in 10 weeks," Ryan O'Shaughnessy said."I would've liked this to be my final job, this is an amazing place," Graphic Designer Andrea O'Briant said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SDG&E announced Fire Safe 3.0 innovations to advance wildfire safety at its headquarters in Kearny Mesa Tuesday.It's the power company's plan to use more advanced technologies to improve wildfire safety. Instead of using weather data updated every 10 minutes, they utilize data updated every 30 seconds instead. SDG&E's chief meteorologist explained they're using artificial intelligence-based models that make weather data more accurate and they're monitoring more than 500,000 trees in the area using a "Vegetation Risk Index."It helps determine how those trees might impact power lines or become fuel for fires. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SANDAG and Caltrans are warning people about an overnight closure on Interstate 5 beginning Thursday night for work on the Mid-Coast Trolley Bridge. Starting February 28 at 9:30 p.m., all southbound lanes on Interstate 5 will be closed from the interchange of I-5 and I-805 to La Jolla Village Drive. All lanes are scheduled to reopen on March 1 at 5 a.m. The lanes will be closed so crews can pour concrete to construct the structure for the Trolley overpass spanning I-5 at Voigt Drive. SANDAG says traffic signs have been posted in the area detailing the detour motorists can take. The Mid-Coast Trolley Project will extend the Blue Line Trolley service from Old Town north to University City. Nine new stations will also be constructed. 769

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several residents have reported receiving calls from San Diego Superior Court demanding money for pending court cases or face arrest.The scam has been reported by several members of the county Hispanic community, according to court officials. The caller says the potential victim has a pending case and that they must deposit money into a bank account or an arrest warrant will be issued.Scammers are using software to mask their number, so the ongoing calls will display the official court phone number in Caller ID."The Court would like to remind the public that it will not demand money over to phone to clear up cases or dismiss any warrants. When in doubt, immediately hang up and call the Court on your own," a release from San Diego Superior Court said.Law enforcement officials also recommend hanging up and calling authorities if scammers become aggressive over the phone. 908

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — She's just 5-years-old, but Faith Perkins is now a published author.Faith and her mother Neka wrote the book 'Faith and Trinity the Unicorn', inspired by the loss of Trinity, Faith's older sister."My husband and I lost Trinity prematurely at 24 weeks in May 2012, of course, that was a devastation, it hurt us, but our faith prompted us to try again, and that's when Faith was born," said Neka. In the book, Faith travels the world with her sister Trinity, who is a unicorn. Faith explains how she and her mother wrote the book together, "What we would do is me and her would sit down, and she would tell me what it would be like if we were playing with each other and whatever I would tell her she would write down on a piece of paper."Neka and Faith hope the book will help others coping with loss. "I hope to inspire so many other individuals to talk about it, it's not easy, it's painful," said Neka.But Neka says writing the book with Faith has helped her heal and find some closure. "I can only imagine what life would have been like with her here, so this allows us to keep the hope alive," said Neka.For Faith, getting the book published is only the beginning.
