(KGTV) - One of San Diego County's universities is among the safest campuses in the country, according to a new study.The North San Diego County college was named among the country's safest campuses by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, the school announced. Chuck Schumer plans to propose legislation decriminalizing marijuana, Vice News reported Thursday."I'll be introducing legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level from one end of the country to the other," the New York Democrat told Vice News. "The legislation is long overdue."Schumer, the Senate minority leader, told Vice that he had "seen too many people's lives ruined because they had small amounts of marijuana and served time in jail much too long."He added that it was "the right thing to do."According to Vice News, the legislation will be introduced in the next week, and it will include taking marijuana off the Drug Enforcement Administration's controlled substance list.Schumer also told Vice News the legislation will "maintain federal authority to regulate marijuana advertising in the same way it does alcohol and tobacco." 874

(CNS) - Kobe Bryant's widow, Vanessa, responded Thursday to a lawsuit filed against her by her mother demanding financial support and claiming the late Laker legend had vowed to take care of her financially for life.In a statement posted online, Vanessa Bryant accused her mother -- Sofia Urbieta Laine -- accused her mother of trying to "extort a financial windfall from our family." Bryant said she and her husband long supported her, allowing her to live in their properties free of charge."She was a grandmother who was supported by me and her son-in-law at my request," Bryant said. "She now wants to back charge me per hour for supposedly working 12 hours a day for 18 years for watching her grandchildren. In reality, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were toddlers."Bryant said she has tried to make peace with her mother to no avail."Earlier this year, I was looking for a new home for her and, a week later, she went on television and gave an interview disparaging our family and making false accusations while living rent-free in a gated apartment complex in Newport Coast," she said. "Even after that betrayal, I was willing to provide my mother with monthly support for the rest of her life and that wasn't good enough. SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Two people are dead and multiple others are injured following a church stabbing in San Jose, California late Sunday.Police say the stabbing happened at Grace Baptist Church. It is unclear exactly how many people were wounded.Police say there is no confirmation of an arrest after Mayor Sam Liccardo said on Twitter that a suspect had been captured, but later deleted the tweet.Bay Area TV station KTVU also reported that a 22-year-old man was apprehended.Police say no services were taking place at the time of the stabbing, but that homeless people had been brought to the church to take shelter from the cold. 644
