BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has said that low-rent and affordable housing construction should be sped up to meet people's basic demands for living.The construction of public low-rent housing seeks to offer middle and low-income urban residents with adequate housing and affordable rents. XI'AN, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains have left at least 15 people dead and 54 missing in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, flood control authorities said late Monday.The lives of more than 1.33 million people were disrupted by the heavy flooding in 23 counties and cities in the southern regions of the province, said officials in the provincial flood control headquarters.Torrential rains have cut off roads, flattened homes, destroyed power facilities and flooded farmland in the worst-hit Ankang City, causing economic losses estimated at 881 million yuan (129 million U.S. dollars), said officials.In the mountainous county of Langao in Ankang, three people were reported dead and 17 still missing after landslides and mud-rock flows struck several villages late Sunday.Continuous rainfall has battered many Chinese provinces and regions over the past week.In neighboring Sichuan Province, flash floods and landslides left at least 26 people dead and more than 30 missing.China is also preparing for the worst Yangtze flooding in more than a decade as water levels in the upper and middle sections of China' s longest waterway continue rising.

CAIRO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A seminar aimed at improving the levels of trade between Egypt and China was held in Cairo late Monday.The two-hour forum was attended by about 60 officials and representatives from both Egyptian and Chinese companies. Cao Jiachang, commercial counselor at the Chinese embassy to Egypt and Mohamed Shafeek, chairman of Egypt's General Authority for Imports and Exports Control, joined the discussion.The forum discussed the pre-shipment inspection of Egypt's imported industrial products from China and other topics such as the improvement of trade structure between the two countries.In February 2009, China's top quality watchdog and Egypt's Ministry of Trade and Industry signed a memorandum of understanding for pre-shipment inspection of Chinese industrial products exported to Egypt.Trade and economic cooperation between China and Egypt have seen rapid development in recent years. In 2009, bilateral trade volume reached 5.86 billion U.S. dollars.
