JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A founder of the Salt Life clothing brand is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of an 18-year-old woman at a Florida hotel.Michael Troy Hutto was being held without bond Sunday at the Duval County jail in Jacksonville following his arrest in connection with the death of 18-year-old Lora Grace Duncan.Her body was found Thursday at a Palm Beach County hotel. Police say she had been fatally shot.Hutto was arrested Friday. Investigators have not said how they believe Hutto is connected to Duncan’s death or if they had a relationship.Jail records do not show if Hutto has an attorney.Hutto no longer owns Salt Life. (KGTV) - Years of work vanished in just moments when the Valley Fire ripped through Jamul, destroying multiple barns and buildings at Hyslop Horse Haven.Patty Hyslop tried to save as many horses as she could when the fire approached the horse rescue but didn’t have time to evacuate all of them. When she returned later, miraculously, the horses left behind survived. The fire line clearly up against their corral.“I still think about oh my God those sheds that were right next to them that burned right next to them. They must’ve exploded. La Jolla residents are beyond frustrated after yet another truck got stuck on one of its busiest streets, a problem they thought the city fixed last week.The latest incident happened Saturday, when a delivery truck got trapped trying to turn up steep Hillside Drive from busy Torrey Pines Road. The truck jutted out into Torrey Pines Road, blocking one lane. "I am completely flabbergasted," La Jolla resident Diane Kane said. "Clearly whatever they did, it was not effective."The city recently installed a cross gutter at the base of Hillside Drive, which residents say made the problem worse. On May 6, it took a second, more powerful tow truck to free a truck that had been lodged at the intersection for hours. Residents complained to the city, which dispatched crews to smooth out the asphalt on Torrey Pines Road to make it more flush with the cross-gutter. However, that only helped make it easier for cars and light trucks to get up and down without bottoming out. A city spokesman said warning signs telling large trucks to avoid the intersection would remain. “City staff are in the process of assessing the intersection to see what additional remedies, if any, can be implemented to help with this problem," city spokesman Alec Phillipp said. "We continue to direct commercial trucks to abide by the signage in the area stating that trucks shall not be using this intersection.”Kane said residents want the city to improve its signage and alert directional apps to instruct trucks to avoid the area. 1519

JUNEAU, Alaska — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management plans to hold an oil and gas lease sale for land in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge next month. Meanwhile, banks around the world are publicly saying they will not finance oil and gas development in the Arctic.The land agency says it plans to hold a lease sale on Jan. 6. It comes just weeks before President-elect Joe Biden is set to take office, and he has said he opposes drilling in that region.The refuge is home to migrating caribou, polar bears and other wildlife."Congress directed us to hold lease sales in the ANWR Coastal Plain, and we have taken a significant step in announcing the first sale in advance of the December 2021 deadline set by law," said a statement Thursday from Chad Padgett, the Alaska state director for the Bureau of Land Management.In 2017, the Republican-led Congress approved legislation to open up the coastal Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil development. The measure required two lease sales within seven years, with the first sale no later than the end of 2021.Conservation groups criticized news of the sale as rushed and based on environmental reviews that are currently being challenged in court as flawed. Conservation groups, the Indigenous Gwich'in people, and a coalition of 15 states have filed lawsuits challenging the environmental reviews.Alaska politicians say opening the area for exploration would boost oil production, create jobs and generate royalties.However, even if a lease sale is held, there are questions about which companies could afford to drill in the refuge.Just this week, Bank of America said they are ruling out financing for oil and gas development in the Arctic, including in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. They are the latest U.S. bank to publicly commit to not financing oil and gas development in the region.“There’s been misunderstanding around our position, but we have not historically participated in project finance for oil and gas exploration in the Arctic,” Larry Di Rita, the bank’s head of public policy and strategy in Washington, told Bloomberg.“But given that misinterpretation, we’ve determined that it’s time to codify our existing practice into policy.”Bank of America joins Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citi and Morgan Stanley and nearly 30 major banks from around the world have committed to not fund oil and gas development in the Arctic. 2427
