BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's central government will, for the first time, reserve vacancies for farmers and workers in this year's nationwide civil service exams.The announcement was made on Wednesday by the State Administration of Civil Service (SACS), which is in charge of recruiting central government employees.Millions of farmers living in the country's rural areas were not allowed to take the exam selecting central government officials until 2006, when the restriction of household registration, or hukou, was lifted.According to the administration, those reserved vacancies will be allocated among departments of the customs, state taxation and railway police at country-level or below.The SACS posted a notice for the exams on its website, but did not specify the number of reserved vacancies.The central government plans to recruit more than 16,000 public servants in 2011, 1,000 more than in 2010. About 85 percent of the vacancies require at least two-years grassroots work experience, up 15 percentage points from the previous year.The SACS also revealed that 100 positions were specially created for college graduates who had served in villages to encourage more college students to work in rural regions after graduation.Registration for this year's exams will start on Friday.

XICHANG, Sichuan, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the "SinoSat-6" satellite for radio and television live broadcast at 12:14 a.m.Sunday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.The satellite was carried on the Long March 3B rocket which took the SinoSat-6 into a geostationary transfer orbit 26 minutes after the launch.In the following days, Xi'an Satellite Control Center and Yuanwang tracking ship will manipulate the satellite's position and transfer it to enter the geostationary orbit.SinoSat-6 has a designed lifespan of 15 years and will eventually work at longitude 126.4 degrees east about 35,700 kilometers above the equator, said the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the satellite's researcher and producer.It will mainly serve for relaying TV and radio live broadcast signals and will greatly improve cultural life for people living in remote and mountainous regions, according to China Satellite Communications Corporation which will operate the satellite.China has launched the first SinoSat series satellite, SinoSat-1, in 1998. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a new national campaign to crack down on violations of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and on the production and distribution of fake and shoddy products.The decision was made at a regular meeting of the State Council Tuesday, which was presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The campaign will last for half a year, beginning from the end of October.The campaign will target pirated publications, software products, DVDs, designs and other products with IPRs, as well as violations of registered trademarks and patents, both at the production and distribution levels.The campaign will also enhance China's scrutiny over the import and export of fake goods and mete out stern punishment to businesses involved in the import and export of such goods.The campaign will target Internet piracy and the sale of pirated and fake goods via the Internet.Additionally, the State Council directed all government agencies to purchase only authorized software and their upgraded versions.At the Tuesday meeting, a draft regulation on gas use in urban areas was also passed in a bid to secure gas supplies and eliminate safety risks.
