BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday hailed the 60th anniversary of the People's Daily, the voice of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and extended his salute to all Chinese journalists.     After inspecting the People's Daily, Hu encouraged reporters and editors to innovate their reporting styles and bring into a full play the paper's leading role.     He sent his greetings to the paper's overseas correspondents and asked them to link the transformation of the international situation with China's reform and opening-up. This was to improve the quality and influence of the paper's international reporting. BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official visited security checkpoints in Beijing and neighboring Hebei province on Monday, stressing both "strictness" and "convenience" as the watchwords for security forces.     "During the Olympics security work, we should not only stick to strictness and details, but also ensure civilized and convenient inspections for people," said Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, to the policemen at the forefront of the checkpoints.     Informed of the fact that some buses might be repeatedly checked, Zhou urged Beijing's municipal police bureau and Hebei's provincial police department to cooperate more. SANYA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on Friday pledged to make concerted effort to promote the traditional friendship and practical cooperation between the two countries.     China sees Tanzania as its all-weather cooperative partner and the healthy development of bilateral relations could be treated as a model for China's sincerity and cooperation with Africa and all developing countries, Hu told Kikwete during their talks in this southern China seaside city.     To further the bilateral all-round cooperation, Hu proposed the two countries strengthen political trust, keep high-level contacts and dialogues in various forms, expand mutually beneficial trade cooperation, facilitate exchanges in the areas of education, culture, sports, public health, tourism and media, and encourage contacts among local governments, social organizations, women and youth of the two countries. BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Prices of real estate in 70 major Chinese cities rose 7.0 percent in July on the same month of last year, 1.2 percentage points lower than the June level, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.     The NDRC, the country's top economic planning organ, said the growth rate had slowed down for six consecutive months.     The price rise was 11.3 percent in January, 10.9 percent in February, 10.7 percent in March, 10.1 percent in April, 9.2 percent in May and 8.2 in June. Haikou, Urumqi, Ningbo and Beijing took the lead in price rises.     Seventeen cities experienced prices fall compared with the month earlier, including Haikou, Dali, Shenzhen and Chengdu among others.     Prices of second-hand houses gained 6.0 percent year on year, 1.5 percentage points lower than June.     New housing for non-residential use was priced 4.9 percent higher than last July, with prices of office buildings up 6.7 percent and those of commercial real estate up 4.1 percent.
