BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States issued a joint statement in Beijing Tuesday, vowing to deepen counter-terrorism consultation and cooperation between the two countries on an equal and mutually beneficial basis.     The two sides promised they would boost joint efforts to combat transnational crime and criminal organizations as well as money laundering and the financing of terrorism, including counterfeiting and recovery of illicit funds.     Issued after the meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama, the statement formulated that the two countries would strengthen cooperation on criminal investigations and deepen collaboration in combating embezzlement.     Other areas, such as counter-narcotics, control of pre-cursor chemicals and combating unlawful migration, smuggling and human trafficking, are also targeted for more cooperation in the future.     The two countries agreed to exchange evidence and intelligence on law enforcement issues in a timely and reciprocal manner, and undertake joint investigations as well as provide investigative assistance on cases of mutual interest, according to the statement.     Obama is in Beijing for a four-day state visit to China that started in Shanghai on Sunday night.

Addressing the science and technology community in Beijing, Wen said China should be built into an innovation-oriented country and neo-strategic industries should become the leading force in promoting the social and economic development.     He called on scientists to boost research in such neo-strategic industries as the new energy industry, information networking industry, micro-electronics and nanotechnology, life science as well space and ocean exploration. BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Monday hoped China and Germany would increase mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields to promote bilateral relations.     "China and Germany are highly complementary in economy and share great potential for cooperation," Wang told visiting German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Rainer Bruederle.     Hailing the China-Germany 37-year diplomatic relations, Wang said the two nations had witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and increased cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science, technology, culture and other fields.     China was in a period which witnessed accelerated industrialization and urbanization, Wang said. "We will unswervingly follow the principle of putting people first and the scientific concept on development to seek sustainable development."     Bruederle said Germany would work with China to expand bilateral cooperation, in a bid to promote healthy and stable development of trade and economic relations between the two nations.

BEIJING, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke said here Monday clean energy technology is one of the most beneficial areas for U.S.-China cooperation and also the only way for the two countries to keep sustained economic growth and combat global climate change.     Locke, who accompanied U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to China, made the remarks at the Sino-U.S. clean energy round table conference held here Monday.     It has been Locke's third trip to China since becoming Commerce Secretary in March.     "The United States and China have the power and indeed an obligation to alter history for the benefit of all people on the planet," he said.     As the world's most productive and innovative economies, the U.S. and China are uniquely positioned to create the solar, wind, biofuel and renewable technologies that the world wants and needs, Locke said.     "We can do it by making clean energy the prime engine of the economic growth in the 21st century," he said.     Locke said he plans to lead an energy and trade mission to China next March, which would include U.S. firms from new energy technology sectors and make stops in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities.     U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu also attended the conference, who expressed optimism about U.S.-China cooperation in the deployment and development of clean energy technology.     The conference was co-hosted by China's State Energy Bureau, U.S. Department of Commerce and Department of Energy, in a bid to advance mutual pragmatic cooperation in clean energy and promote the development of clean energy technology and industry.

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Heavy fog faded in most Chinese provinces after a cold front from Siberia moving south cleared up the sky on Wednesday. As a result, road, river and air traffic was finally restored after days of disruption in many parts of China.     Traffic on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal resumed at noon after 11 hours of closure, said an official from Yangzhou City of east China's Jiangsu Province Wednesday.     Nearly 100 vessels stranded in Yangzhou have entered the Yangtze River. Highrise buildings are seen shrouded by heavy fog at the financial district of Shanghai, east China, Dec. 2, 2009    But sea areas off Shanghai were still shrouded by heavy fog. In the first three quarters of this year, Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration reported 32 accidents in its administrative area, in which 13 vessels were wrecked and 20 people went missing. Direct economic loss was estimated at 39 million yuan (about five million U.S. dollars).     The administration reminded passing vessels to be ready for emergencies because of the bad weather.     Visibility in east China's Shandong Province rose to more than 1,000 meters. Delayed flights and closed highways had been resumed, said the provincial meteorological bureau.     However, the heavy fog staggered in east China's Anhui Province, north China's Shanxi Province and northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Wednesday.     Visibility was 200 to 50 meters in most parts of Anhui, where police had to reinforce traffic control on highways.     Two of the three flights canceled on Tuesday in Hefei City tookoff Wednesday, though some other flights were delayed.     Visibility in Shanxi was 100 to 20 meters on Wednesday. Flights at the Airport of Yuncheng in Shanxi were postponed.
