SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Lakeside mother made a life-changing sacrifice for a teenager she had never met.“I went into this not knowing if I would ever meet the family,” said Tiffany Jokerst of the surgery.Jokers, a math teacher, has spent her life giving to others. She was web surfing when she noticed a post that would push her to do even more.“I actually saw a story online about a little girl who needed a kidney,” said Jokerst.Without hesitation, Jokerst launched into the process, only to learn she was not a match to the girl. However, Jokerst was a match to 17-year-old Alejandro Hernandez.“Alejandro has been struggling with kidney disease all his life, finally his kidneys failed,” said Dr. Elizabeth Ingulli of Rady Children’s Hospital.The hospital currently has 29 patients on its transplant waiting list.Jokerst agreed to the surgery and Hernandez received the transplant he desperately needed.“I can play soccer, work out, hang out with my friends,” Hernandez said.Jokerst and Hernandez met for the first time Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Pacific Beach woman is appealing for tips after a hit-and-run driver struck the motor scooter she was riding, leaving her with serious injuries.On Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m., yoga teacher Fallon Lev was headed to a yoga studio, riding her motor scooter on Ingraham Street, when she exited onto Sunset Cliffs Boulevard."Just gotten onto the ramp, going a reasonable speed," said Lev.In a one-lane section, she looked to her left and felt a car right next to her."It bumped me, causing the scooter wiggle back and forth. Instantly, I'm like on the floor, and my whole body is tumbleweeding on the cement. I must have gone five or six times," said Lev.She says the driver kept going. Later, at the hospital came the diagnosis and surgery."I broke my pelvis in two different areas and have these two bars sticking out of my hipbone and a bar straight across," said Lev.She also suffered a painful road rash and a broken tooth. Her road to recovery will be a long one. Lev, a yoga teacher whose income was greatly impacted by the pandemic, is trying to stay positive. The actions of the driver make her angry."I'm trying not to affect it my healing. Of course, it's extremely disturbing and disappointing ... There is no way the driver didn’t see me go down. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat and power boat collided near the Coronado Bridge Sunday afternoon, injuring four people, according to San Diego Harbor Police.A good Samaritan drove by and noticed people floating in life jackets as their boat took on water. He picked up nine people and ferried them to Pepper Park. "It's just what you do you're a boater, it's what you're supposed to do, you help out on the water, people have helped us and we've helped other people," Kary Brownlee said.The damaged powerboat, a Bayliner, was towed back to the Pepper Park launch ramp where four passengers were evaluated for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital.The sailboat cruised back to Coronado on its own power."All it takes is a split second, when the captain is not paying attention that could cause a collision," boat safety advocate Amos Zolna said. He explained sail boats generally have the right of way, as they are harder to maneuver, compared to a power boat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Normal Heights dog owner is warning about a hidden danger at dog parks.Bosco, a 2-year-old bullypit, loves his treats and just about anything else his mouth can reach."He's a vacuum. He's eaten some weird stuff," said Mark Groveman.On Friday morning, the list of stuff got longer sometime during a 40-minute period. During that time, Groveman walked Bosco to the off-leash area at Ward Canyon Park and let him play. Eventually they walked home. Groveman put him in the house, left for work and returned home five hours later."He was laying on the bed, scared and shivering. He had wet the bed a couple times. He was arching his back in a weird way, swaying side to side. I thought he was having a stroke," said Groveman.Groveman decided to rush Bosco to the emergency vet."In the car, he was bobbing his head forward. He kept nodding off. Honestly I thought he was going to die. A lot of panic and some praying as well," said Groveman. At the vet, Bosco got a quick diagnosis."They said they are seeing it every day," said Groveman. Bosco likely ingested marijuana, which tests later confirmed. Experts say in some cases, eating marijuana for dogs can lead to seizures and in rare cases, death.
