SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police responded Sunday to a deadly shooting the Rolando area.According to police, the incident happened at El Cajon Boulevard and 73rd Street after 12 p.m. Officers received a call of a single-vehicle crash.Police arrived to find paramedics treating a 35-year-old man who had been driving the vehicle suffering from life-threatening injuries to his torso. The injuries, however, were not from the crash, SDPD said.The man was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld Wednesday released an endangered turtle rescued off the Oregon coast back into the ocean.The olive ridley sea turtle named Coral was rescued after being found stranded on an Oregon beach.SeaWorld says the 18 to 25-year-old turtle was taken to a Seattle aquarium for rehabilitation before being flown to San Diego for more treatment.Once the ocean temperature off the coast became stable around 70 degrees, Coral was released back into her ocean home about 10 miles off the San Diego coast.Experts installed a tracking device on the turtle’s shell in hopes of tracking Coral’s location as well as ocean temperature.According to SeaWorld, olive ridley turtles are found throughout the Pacific ocean, though they rarely stray any further north than Southern California. 803

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several residents have reported receiving calls from San Diego Superior Court demanding money for pending court cases or face arrest.The scam has been reported by several members of the county Hispanic community, according to court officials. The caller says the potential victim has a pending case and that they must deposit money into a bank account or an arrest warrant will be issued.Scammers are using software to mask their number, so the ongoing calls will display the official court phone number in Caller ID."The Court would like to remind the public that it will not demand money over to phone to clear up cases or dismiss any warrants. When in doubt, immediately hang up and call the Court on your own," a release from San Diego Superior Court said.Law enforcement officials also recommend hanging up and calling authorities if scammers become aggressive over the phone. 908

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Squatters turned a remodeled home in the College Area into a drug den, days after it was listed on as a vacation rental.Two weeks ago, John, who asked us not to use his full name, listed his four-bedroom home on the site VRBO, complete with new mattresses, comforters, and sheets. This past Sunday, a television installer entered the home to put up three TVs."He heard two people run out of the hallway out the back of the house," said John.RELATED: Residents concerned over rash of vandalism in Chula VistaPhotos taken by the installer show part of the scene they left behind: trashed bedrooms and beds littered with electric scooter parts. Also on the beds were crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia. Burn marks adorned three of the beds. John and his girlfriend had spent more than a week making the place perfect. "Just sad. She was crying out the break-in. Upsetting considering how hard we worked and how much money we spent," said John.John isn't sure how the intruders got past the locked doors. But once inside, it's clear they made themselves comfortable, using John's tools and toiletries, and eating food meant for future guests. When police showed up, the burglar had disappeared. John is now planning major upgrades in security.John still plans to list his home on vacation rental sites, but it will cost him.
