Canadian police said they are open to the possibility that a young couple's slaying is connected to the case of two missing Canadian teens in the same region of British Columbia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said last week that there was no evidence to suggest the deaths of an American woman and her Australian boyfriend were linked to the teens' disappearance -- or to the body of an unidentified man found near the teens' burning car.But on Monday, the RCMP acknowledged "growing community concerns" about the two investigations some 290 miles apart in the sparsely populated region.Cpl. Chris Manseau said it was unusual for investigators in northern British Columbia to have two "complex and dynamic" cases at once, adding it was "possible" that the two cases are linked. But he provided no information suggesting that investigators had found direct evidence of a connection.Nevertheless, the RCMP revealed more details from the case of the missing teens on Monday, along with new information in the couple's death. Here's what we know about the two cases so far:Authorities try to find teens and identify corpseThe RCMP is searching for Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, after their car was found burning on the side of Highway 37 on Friday. While investigating the fire, police discovered the body of a man more than a mile away, the RCMP said in a statement. Authorities released a composite sketch of the man to assist in confirming his identity. He was described as a Caucasian with a heavy build, 50-60 years old with gray hair and a bushy beard, between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. The teens from Port Alberni were traveling through British Columbia to the Yukon Territory to look for work, the RCMP said. They were last seen traveling south from a general store in Dease Lake on Thursday, July 18. They were driving the red and grey Dodge pickup truck with a sleeping camper that was found on fire the next day, about 31 miles south of Dease Lake, the RCMP said."Kam and Bryer have periodically connected with family and friends over the past week and it is possible that they are now in an area without cell coverage," said Dawn Roberts of British Columbia's RCMP Communications."However, we have found their vehicle and have not been able to locate either of them at this time. We are asking for Kam or Bryer to connect with police right away and let us know you are okay. Or we ask that anyone who may have spoken to or seen them over the last few days to call police so we can get a better understanding as to where they might be or their plans."Police look for man who may have spoken to victimAmerican Chynna Noelle Deese, 24, and her Australian boyfriend Lucas Robertson Fowler, 23, were shot dead, Manseau said.Fowler had been living in British Columbia, and they were exploring the area while Deese was visiting him, Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said. The couple was found on July 15 on Alaska Highway about 12 miles south of Liard Hot Springs, the RCMP said previously.Chynna Deese's mother, Sheila Deese, told CNN affiliate 3076

Another person has died from an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in North Carolina, bringing the death toll to four. None of the victims have been identified by authorities and health officials have not discussed the circumstances of their deaths. There have been 141 confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease, an airborne lung infection, or Pontiac Fever, a milder form of the disease since last month. Health officials said nearly all of those infected were attending the NC Mountain State Fair in Fletcher between September 6 and 15.The outbreak has been linked to a hot tubs display in one events center and officials said it took place during the last five days of the fair, a preliminary report shows. In addition to the four deaths, 94 people were hospitalized. There were no other significant sources of aerosolized water -- small droplets of water or mist that can be inhaled -- at the event center, and no other ongoing potential sources of exposure identified, the health department has said.Legionnaires' disease is a lung infection contracted when people breathe in the Legionella bacteria through a mist or by accidentally getting water into their lungs that contains the bacteria. The disease is serious but can be treated with antibiotics, the department said. About 1 in 10 people who get sick from Legionnaires' disease die, a recent government report found.Legionella bacteria are found naturally in the environment but can become a health concern when they "spread in human-made water systems like hot water tanks, cooling towers of air conditioning systems, decorative fountains and hot tubs or spas that are not properly maintained," the North Carolina health department said. 1708

Boeing is cutting more than 12,000 jobs through layoffs and buyouts, with several thousand more jobs expected to be cut over the next few months as the aircraft deals with a downturn in travel caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The company said Wednesday it will lay off 6,770 U.S. workers this week, and another 5,520 employees are taking buyouts. Boeing had already said it would cut 10% of a workforce that numbered about 160,000. The layoffs are expected to be concentrated in the Seattle area, home to Boeing's big commercial-airplanes business. The Chicago-based company says its defense business is stable and will help blunt the impact of falling demand for passenger jets. 693

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Florida mother is suing the company who makes Banana Boat sunscreen.Agi Kiraga says one of their sprays caused her son's skin to blister."It was Sunday afternoon. Me and my husband decided to take Jaden to the pool," the Boynton Beach, Florida, mother said.Having recently moved from Chicago, Kiraga made sure to put sunscreen on her then 2-year-old son. "I apply directly on the skin and then I spread on his body," says Kiraga.Kiraga says she used "Banana Boat kids, tear-free, sting-free broad spectrum continuous spray sunscreen" for the first time. She says it was about 4 p.m. when they went to the pool, and they only stayed outside for an hour and a half at most.Later that night, Kiraga says, "all of a sudden I saw some circle spot on his shoulder." She says it was in the spot where she had directly sprayed."Next day, the spot was more red," the mother says.A day after that, Kiraga says, "it was bad. First, you had those blisters, then it was blistered where it ruptured. And then skin peeling off."Kiraga says her dermatologist told her he'd seen it before with that sunscreen. Although he did not see Jaden himself, dermatologist Reid Green, with Water's Edge Dermatology in Florida, says he's seen similar negative reactions to sunscreen before."There are certain properties in the ingredients in some chemical sunscreens that are sort of activated by the sun," says Green. That causes irritation, an allergic reaction or other problems. Green recommends using zinc- or titanium-based sunscreen."It means that instead of protecting the children from the sun, it’s actually causing a reaction to the sun as if someone put oil on their body," says Kiraga's attorney, Harris Katz, after he says he consulted with toxicologists. An internet search shows other parents around the world have complained too.Katz says they filed the lawsuit to get Banana Boat's parent company, Edgewell Personal Care, to put warnings on the label."As a parent myself, I find it to be incredibly scary and unnerving that you can use a product like this and not know it’s dangerous until almost 24 hours goes after the application," says Katz.Jaden has a scar where the blisters once were."I brought in this world a healthy kid. And just because this company didn’t put in a warning, it’s painful to him," says Kiraga.WPTV reached out to Edgewell Personal Care and their lawyer, but they did not respond. Part of the lawsuit claims that Edgewell is falsely marketing a safe product. Edgewell's lawyer filed a motion to dismiss in court, saying that part of the lawsuit should be thrown out. Edgewell Personal Care later released the following statement: 2680
