SAN BERNARDINO (KGTV) -- A man was seriously injured after falling 100 feet at Mount San Gorgonio Sunday afternoon.According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, 34-year-old Anthony Casteneda was hiking with friends near High Creek Trail when he lost his footing and fell approximately 100 feet.After the fall, Casteneda was unable to hike out of the area due to serious injuries he sustained during the fall. Deputies say Casteneda’s friends were able to call for help. The department had to use a rescue helicopter to hoist Casteneda from the heavily-forested ice-covered slope.In a release, deputies say Casteneda’s rescue was the second of the day Sunday. 684

SALT LAKE CITY — A 15-year-old boy has died from his injuries after he became trapped in a car that flipped into the Jordan River Canal late Saturday night.The 20-year-old driver and two kids escaped the car before emergency crews arrived, but the 15-year-old and a two-year-old remained trapped in the vehicle.Family identified the victim as Justin Bates. His uncle says the teen made it out of the car safely before going back into the water in an attempt to rescue the little girl.“He was good hearted. SAN DIEGO (AP) — A former U.S. Navy sailor who was attached to a U.S. Navy SEAL platoon says the 2019 deployment to Iraq was marred by drinking and sexual misconduct. Colleen Grace is the first to give an in-depth view of what led up to an entire SEAL platoon being withdrawn from Iraq following a Fourth of July barbecue and the alleged sexual assault of a sailor. Grace detailed what she witnessed that night and described other misconduct. Special Warfare Operator First Class Adel A. Enayat was charged with sexual assault. He denies any wrongdoing. The AP initially withheld his name because he filed a counter complaint saying the sailor raped him. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service said Friday it has closed that investigation because he did not cooperate. 778

San Diegans already pay some of the nation's highest gas taxes, and they're about to fork over even more at the pump.On Wednesday, the state will raise the per-gallon tax by 12 cents to 41.7 cents per gallon. That's on top of existing state and federal taxes drivers pay on regular gasoline. Gov. Jerry Brown and the state legislature approved the increase earlier this year to help fund state and local transportation projects. There's an interactive project map here. The new tax is supposed to generate about billion over the next 10 years. "For us just regular people, we don't have the extra money to pay for gas, especially with the commute," said La Mesa resident Anneke Crowder, who was filling up Monday. But there is one force at play that could lessen the hit from the increase. The day the tax goes up, Wednesday, is also the day that gas stations can start selling the less expensive winter blend.Marie Montgomery, a spokeswoman for the Auto Club, says that should cut the gas price about 6 cents, offsetting half the increase.Diesel drivers will be hit harder on Wednesday, when the per-gallon tax increases 20 cents, and the sales tax goes up to 13 percent. On Monday, the average gallon of regular gas cost .05 in San Diego, and Diesel .14.  1308

(KGTV) - Local activists are planning a protest Monday after multiple reports saying fans of San Clemente High School’s football team allegedly shouted racist slurs at students of San Diego’s Lincoln High School at a football game Friday night in Orange County.The NAACP San Diego said that multiple spectators from the home team heckled the Lincoln High players and cheer squad, repeatedly using racial slurs including the "n-word.""Furthermore, cheer squad members were racially harassed in restrooms, again including the 'n-word.' This harassment came not only from high-school-age youth, but also from adult fans,” Clovis Honoré, president of the NAACP San Diego Branch wrote in a letter to San Clemente High School and district officials. “We are shocked and disgusted that such blatant racism would occur in 2019 at an athletic contest for high school students,” said Honoré.
