Harvey Weinstein's rape trial has begun in a landmark moment for the global #MeToo movement. New York prosecutors painted him in an opening statement Wednesday as a sexual predator who used his movie-magnate stature to abuse women, while his lawyers sought to discredit the accusers and argue they were willing participants. More than two years after allegations against Weinstein gave rise to #MeToo, the trial is seen as a key point in a global reckoning with sexual misconduct by powerful men. Weinstein said he believes he'll get a fair trial. He has insisted any sexual encounters were consensual. 615

Idalia Yamileth Herrera Hernandez grew increasingly desperate with her toddler in Mexico as they waited for weeks for their day in court. It never came. The Honduran mother died with her son, 21-month-old son, Iker Gael Cordova Herrera, while trying to cross the Rio Grande river into Texas, Nelly Jerez, the Honduran vice foreign minister of consular and migration affairs, said in a statement obtained by CNN.Their bodies were recovered last week in an area near San Felipe Creek in Val Verde County after an "intensive search" by air and water, according to a US Customs and Border Protection spokesperson.Jerez said the pair had recently entered the US and made a request for asylum but they were sent to Matamoros, Mexico, to wait for an immigration court hearing.Thousands of asylum seekers have been forced to wait in Mexico while their cases are adjudicated in the US under the Migrant Protection Protocols program, informally known as "Remain in Mexico."In Matamoros, hundreds of people who were returned to Mexico are living in tents near a US port of entry while others stay at the few migrant shelters in the city. Many of them rely on food and clothing donations from non-profit groups and take showers in the river or a makeshift shower behind a dumpster.Herrera Hernandez, 26, and her son slept on the streets and shelters in Matamoros for weeks, her husband and brother-in-law told CNN affiliates 1424

Hurricane Dorian is rapidly intensifying on Friday, as it is a category 4 hurricane with winds of 140 MPH, the NOAA Hurricane Hunters found during its flight through the storm. During its flight through the core of Dorian, it found the pressure dropped from 970 MBs to 950 MBs during the evening. By 11 p.m., the pressure dropped even more to 948 MBs.Hurricane warnings have been issued for the northern Bahamas, including Freeport and Nassau. No watches have been issued for the U.S. yet, but hurricane watches are expected for the Florida coast Saturday. The storm is still expected to maintain category 4 intensity through Tuesday. Forecast models still disagree on whether Dorian makes a direct landfall in Florida, or narrowly miss the state as it turns north. 776

Google's parent company Alphabet says David Drummond, its legal chief, is leaving at the end of the month. Drummond has faced accusations of inappropriate relationships with employees. Alphabet did not give a reason for Drummond's departure in a regulatory filing Friday. The company said last November that it was investigating sexual misconduct cases against executives. Claims against Drummond were included in the investigations. The company said Friday that Drummond is not getting an exit package as part of his departure. Drummond does not mention the misconduct allegations in a memo to employees on his departure. He joined Google in 2002. 660
