Victims who endured mental, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of wealthy Palm Beach hedge fund manager Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirators can now start filing compensation claims against his estate.Earlier this month, a U.S. Virgin Islands probate judge gave the go-ahead for the Epstein Victims' Compensation Program to begin accepting claims starting on Thursday, June 25.An estimated 0 million has been allocated to the fund."Jeffrey Epstein has failed, and his victims have won," said attorney Spencer Kuvin, who represents four of Epstein's accusers. "Hopefully this is the first page of the final chapter of the Epstein saga."Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Kuvin said the fund is only open for less than a year, and money will be distributed to victims based upon their allegations that can be proven.Victims who have more evidence and more significant damages will receive more money, Kuvin said."It is imperative that anyone who believes they're a victim of Jeffrey Epstein come forward now. Your identities will remain confidential throughout the process," said Kuvin. "It is for all victims to apply. This includes women that have never come forward before. It includes women that have filed lawsuits. It includes women whose only evidence is their tragic memory of the events. And it includes women that have filed and settled their cases."Kuvin added that women who have been abused by Epstein can come forward with "merely their memories of what has occurred."After applying, victims will be interviewed by a fund administrator to look at their evidence and determine how much money they may receive.Epstein, who was accused of sexually abusing underage girls and running a sex trafficking ring, was found dead in his jail cell at New York's Metropolitan Correctional Center on Aug,. 10, 2019. A medical examiner determined his cause of death was suicide by hanging.One of Epstein's victims, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke via phone call during Thursday's news conference, calling the Palm Beach financier a "monster" and urging other victims to come forward."It's something I've been living with every day of my life, and it's really transformed my life," the victim said. "To get closure and put it in the past and move on and move forward is a big deal."Kuvin recommended that anyone who applies for compensation from the fund should have an attorney."There could potentially be close to hundreds of victims out there over a 20-year period," Kuvin said. No suspect description at this time.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego police are looking for clues after a man that was found injured on a sidewalk in the Bay Terraces neighborhood died early Friday morning.Police and firefighters responded around 12:40 a.m. to a report of a person down in the 2300 block of Spring Oak Way, between Bell Middle and Zamorano Elementary schools.Emergency crews arrived in the area and found the man suffering from traumatic injuries to his upper body, San Diego police Lt. Anthony Dupree said.The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Dupree said.The victim was described as a Hispanic male in his twenties. A skateboard was found at the scene. It's unclear if the man was a resident of the area. No further information was available at this time.Homicide investigators are now working the scene. (KGTV) - The 12-year-old survivor of a plane crash in Valley Center is praising her uncle, the pilot who died in the crash.A smiling photo of Raquel Contreras was taken moments before her uncle, Peter Bierle, a seasoned pilot, took her up in his single-engine, experimental aircraft on an early Sunday evening. They were above the home of her friend for a birthday flyover when it happened. More than two weeks after the crash, Contreras spoke to us from her hospital room. She says some neighbors got an early warning."The plane hadn't even crashed, and they were getting ready because they heard engine failure," said Contreras.RELATED: Pilot killed, 12-year-old girl badly injured in small plane crash in Valley CenterA traumatized Contreras didn't want to talk about the crash, but her family says her uncle told her to, "Get down low and hold on."Witnesses saw the plane dive toward the yard, away from buildings, before it crashed."I want to honor Uncle Peter. It's amazing what he did, and I wouldn't be here if he didn't land and crash like he did," said Contreras.Bierle died at the scene. Dozens of neighbors rushed to the plane, burning fuel nearby."Just want to thank everyone on Palomar Vista Drive ... Amazing how everyone came together in the end," Contreras said.Contreras was cut out of seat belt and rescued. That seat belt was a 4-point harness belt, courtesy of her Aunt Connie."Right before the flight, she put in a new seat belt and checked my buckle," says Contreras.The last-minute addition may have saved her life. VALLEY CENTER (CNS) - A motorist was killed today when he crashed his car off a two-lane rural road northeast of Escondido while trying to pass another vehicle at high speed, authorities reported.The 35-year-old San Marcos resident lost control of his Acura TL while attempting to steer around a slower-moving Toyota Highlander on Valley Center Road near Rock Hill Ranch Road about 1:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The Acura sideswiped the SUV, then skidded off the roadway and crashed into a power pole and a tree, killing the driver and sole occupant of the sedan, CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe said.The 35-year-old San Marcos woman behind the wheel of the Toyota was unharmed, as were the six young children riding in her vehicle, Latulippe said. 790

UK’s Chief Veterinary Officer says a feline has become the first animal in the United Kingdom to test positive for COVID-19.The cat's diagnosis was confirmed following tests at the Animal and Plant Health Agency laboratory in Weybridge, England on July 22, according to a UK government press release."Although this is the first confirmed case of an animal infection with the coronavirus strain in the UK, there is no evidence to suggest that the animal was involved in the transmission of the disease to its owners or that pets or other domestic animals are able to transmit the virus to people," the government said.The press release added that evidence suggests that the cat contracted the coronavirus from its owners who had previously tested positive for the virus."This is a very rare event with infected animals detected to date only showing mild clinical signs and recovering within a few days," Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss said.The cat and its owners have made a full recovery. 1011
