Those who live in El Paso, Texas—a city that lives on the U.S. and Mexico borders—describes their home as a loving place.“Everybody knows everybody, seems that way,” says resident Ruben Vuentes. Vuentes says the people of El Paso are not close-minded. Resident Alicia Brown shares the same sentiment. She says she’s never felt out of place because of the color of her skin. “There’s no racism here,” she says. “I don’t feel it. I’ve never felt it in all my life.”Now, those living in the close-knit community are trying to heal after a gunman killed 22 people and injured dozens of others Saturday at a local Walmart. Police say the 21-year-old white, male suspect is believed to be the author of a racist, anti-Hispanic 2,300-word document found online. Police say the manifesto was filled with white nationalist language and blamed immigrants for taking away jobs. El Paso has found itself at the center of the Trump administration’s hardline stance on immigration due to its proximity to the border. Marisa Limon Garza with the Hope Border Institute says the community is family and that include El Pasoans and Mexican nationals, just across the border in Juarez. “These border lands, these fences, these structures, are things that were imposed on us,” she says. But this has been a binational community for so long, and it’s one we find great beauty in.”It’s a melting pot of immigrants and Mexican nationals, and the community sees it as an asset. “This city is surviving because of the people coming from Juarez, says Brown. “What people don’t realize is they are part of this economy. The people that were at Walmart, they were shopping for clothes, school supplies, just like all of us.”Brown says when the shooting happened, she did worry the community—this family—might have been shattered. But that isn’t the case.“Because really, he didn’t; he brought us together. He united us,” Brown says of the shooter. 1931
The show will not go on at The Metropolitan Opera for Plácido Domingo. The opera star will not be performing his role as Macbeth in the Met's production of the Giuseppe Verdi classic and will not perform any production at the venue again, bringing to an end a professional relationship that began in 1968, according to statements shared with CNN."The Metropolitan Opera confirms that Plácido Domingo has agreed to withdraw from all future performances at the Met, effective immediately," the statement from a Met spokesperson said. "The Met and Mr. Domingo are in agreement that he needed to step down. The Met has no further comment at this time."Domingo's image was removed from the "Macbeth" page on the Met Opera's official website at roughly 6 p.m. ET. "Macbeth" was set to open Wednesday with Domingo in the lead role.He was set to perform September 25, 28 and October 1. He was also set to perform four dates November in "Madama Butterfly.""While I strongly dispute recent allegations made about me, and I am concerned about a climate in which people are condemned without due process, upon reflection, I believe that my appearance in this production of Macbeth would distract from the hard work of my colleagues both on stage and behind the scenes," Domingo added in a statement. "As a result, I have asked to withdraw and I thank the leadership of the Met for graciously granting my request."He added: "I am happy that, at the age of 78, I was able to sing the wonderful title role in the dress rehearsal of 'Macbeth,' which I consider my last performance on the Met stage. I am grateful to God and the public for what they have allowed me to accomplish here at The Metropolitan opera."Domingo's decision comes as he faces multiple accusations of sexual misconduct, which he has disputed and said were "riddled with inconsistencies."In August, The Associated Press reported that nine women detailed alleged incidents of sexual harassment that took place over three decades beginning in the late 1980s. In September, 11 more people came forward with allegations that included verbal harassment and groping.CNN was unable to verify their accounts."Due to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment on specifics, but we strongly dispute the misleading picture that the AP is attempting to paint of Mr. Domingo," Nancy Seltzer, a spokesperson for Domingo, told CNN in a statement in September.Domingo, 78, is regarded as one of the greatest opera singers of all time. He's won 14 Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards and performed with fellow tenors Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras as part of the Three Tenors. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera at 27 and performed there for 51 consecutive years. 2722

There are so many options when a person goes into a supplement store, from vitamins to minerals and protein powders and more. The latest one to grow in popularity? Collagen. At Supplement Giant, owner Adam Watts says collagen powder is a popular product.“Collagen is actually the most abundant amount of protein in our body,” Watts said.Collagen represents 30 percent of a human body’s protein content.“It’s found in animal bones ligaments and tendons again not traditionally part of our diet anymore,” he said. Most brands sell collagen as a great supplement to take to improve a person’s hair, skin, fingernails, and bone and joint health.“If you have a deficiency of collagen in your skin it can decrease you skin health which can cause stretch marks, dark spots, infections,” Watts said.He suggests people age 30 and older take a collagen supplement.“After the age of 30, collagen decreases by 1 percent, so by the time you're 50, you've lost 20 percent of your collagen,” he said. "If you have injuries, collagen is going to help and repair tissue." Registered Dietician Jessica Crandall Snyder said she recommends food as medicine, not supplements."Being active on a daily basis you are actually helping to re-synthesize your collagen," she said, "So supplemental sources from protein powders may not be the way for you to get adequate nutrition."While Adam Watts sells collagen powder at whole sale, other stores start the product at per container. But eggs, wild salmon, tomatoes, pumpkin and chia seeds are affordable foods that aid in collagen production. The experts say collagen powder works, but make sure it’s not your main source of protein. 1668
