CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - This week Chula Vista Police shut down yet another illegal cannabis dispensary, an ongoing problem that's grown in recent years. While the city doesn't allow any cannabis sales at the moment, police believe there's roughly a dozen or more operating illegally in the city.“One of the challenges with unlicensed, illegal cannabis business is that they move and they change. The number of facilities is always changing, the location of facilities changes quite frequently," said Captain Phil Collum.Captain Collum says their most recent bust was one of the most egregious cases he's seen, from the number of cannabis products to security measures.“I was standing inside the facility and was shocked at what they had done," said Collum. "The windows were sealed shut with metal plating; the front door was actually, had a welded security grate that was locked closed, it had pretty much sealed off any emergency evacuation routes to this facility.”He says if there were a fire or sudden emergency in the building people could have been trapped. Captain Collum said they were alerted to the illegal operation by neighbor complaints. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista high school student was arrested on suspicion of posting a threatening message on social media.Sweetwater Union High School District said they notified police Wednesday that a threat against Olympian High School was posted on social media. A student notified the administrators after school of the social media posting, according to Chula Vista Police.The threat was thought to be credible at the time, police said, and alluded to a student "becoming a school shooter."Chula Vista Police officers identified the poster as a 16-year-old 10th-grade student and took her into custody at her home Wednesday night. Police said the girl admitted to making the social media post "as a joke and thought it would be funny."Officers searched the students home but did not find any weapons. According to the district, officers do not believe any actual incident would have occurred.The student was arrested and taken to Juvenile Hall for making the threat.The Olympian High threat is the latest in a series of threats made against San Diego County schools in the weeks since the tragic high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14.RELATED STORIES: 1206

K9 Griffen died Saturday after suffering from an unspecified medical condition.“It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss that the Chula Vista Police Department says goodbye to Chula Vista Police Dog, K-9 Griffen,” the department said Monday.Griffen died surrounded by his handler, his handler’s family and other members of the K9 program.Griffen was a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois who worked to protect his handler, searched for suspects and made frequent appearances at community events. 590

CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- More than 20 people showed up to a town hall meeting hosted by the Baldwin and Sons regarding their development in Otay Ranch.Right now, the massive project includes 292 condos, 300 apartments, a 2-acre park and 15,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, as well as two hotels.  One of the hotels opened in 2017, and condos are under construction.The developer now wants to add 300 more apartments to their plan.  They say the plan will not require any additional space but instead will require a different building and site design.RELATED: Developer wants to add 300 apartments to Chula Vista propertyMany in the community raised concerns about traffic and the overcrowding in schools at the open house. Developers were there to address those concerns.According to Nick Lee, a study of the area says the roads it can accommodate nearly 12,000 trips a day. Even with the additional 300 units, it would push those numbers to around 8,000 trips a day.They also said they’ve spoken with the Elementary and High School districts, and both have told them they should be able to accommodate the students with their existing facilities.The developers expect to bring the new plans to planning commission next month. 1268
