Lori Becerra has a lot of work to do, picking up the pieces of Category 4 Hurricane Michael.Becerra helps run Southern Assisted Care, a place seniors with Alzheimer’s call home.“With their cognition, they don’t always recognize what’s going on,” explains Becerra. “So, we tried to kind of keep it from them.Since Alzheimer’s patients don’t always process information the same way, Becerra says she didn’t want to create unnecessary stress. But how do you keep a Category 4 storm howling on the other side of a boarded-up window a secret?Becerra says they kept their residents entertained. “In the middle of everything, being scary and you know you’re hearing trees come down and hearing wind howl, you’re turning on music on the radio and doing a dance party,” she says. “You’re putting out puzzles to do a puzzle.”Becerra says it was just about keeping her residents distracted.“And they haven’t been back outside since the storm so they don’t even realize what’s happened,” she says. The facility is now without running water, and Becerra expects to be running on generators for days, if not longer. She says she’ll take the burden of the stress, so the residents, as she puts it, can stay blissfully unaware.“It’s protected them from having to go through what we’re feeling emotionally when we see it,” Becerra says. 1331
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - On the day he was scheduled to meet with Los Angeles Police Department brass to discuss ways of stopping gang violence, rapper Nipsey Hussle was instead being mourned Monday by musicians, athletes and politicians.Hussle, 33, was gunned down in broad daylight around 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of West Slauson Avenue, in front of The Marathon Clothing store he founded in 2017 near Crenshaw Boulevard in South Los Angeles. Two other men were wounded in the shooting.Hussle had been scheduled to meet Monday with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff -- a meeting Hussle had requested.``We were meeting at the request of (Hussle) with him and (Jay-Z's production company Roc Nation) ... to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids,'' Soboroff wrote on his Twitter page Sunday night. ``I'm so very sad.''Soboroff also wrote: ``RIP sir. Many of us will join together to stop whatever caused your and so many other tragic unnecessary killings.''Although some reports initially indicated the meeting would still be held Monday afternoon, KNX Newsradio reported the gathering was being rescheduled so Hussle's relatives can attend.Soboroff and Moore, along with other LAPD leaders and detectives from the gang and robbery-homicide divisions are expected to hold a news conference at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to give an update on the investigation and address ``the surge in violence in the city of Los Angeles,'' according to the LAPD.Witnesses said a young man approached Hussle and two other men before firing a number of shots and fleeing to a nearby vehicle. One of the two wounded men was hospitalized in stable condition but the other declined to be taken to a hospital, sources from the Los Angeles police and fire departments told City News Service.Surveillance video from a business across the street obtained by TMZ shows what appears to be a suspect walking up to the clothing store, where multiple people are standing outside. The shooting occurs quickly afterward, although it cannot be clearly seen on the video. But one person can be seen falling to the ground, and at least three people are seen running from the parking lot.The Grammy-nominated Hussle, a father of two whose birth name was Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The coroner's office reported that he died of gunshot wounds to his head and body, and his death was officially deemed a homicide. The suspect was described only as a young black male, LAPD's Chris Ramirez told reporters.Moore, speaking to reporters Monday at the crime scene, said he believes the gunman and Hussle were acquainted, meaning the shooting was likely the result of a personal dispute.``This was not a chance encounter. We don't think this was a sudden engagement,'' Moore said. ``... We are pursuing a number of investigative leads. We're looking at video evidence. We're looking to identify a vehicle.''``... I want to thank the community that has immediately begun reaching out to us with tips and leads. I need those to continue. More importantly, I think the person who's responsible for this, the people involved in this, they know who they are and they're watching this right now. And I'd ask them to surrender, and turn themselves in.''A coalition of African-American community leaders held a news conference near the crime scene Monday morning to call on the shooter to surrender to authorities. They also called for an immediate end to black-on-black violence, Project Islamic Hope CEO Najee Ali said.Hundreds of people gathered throughout the day at the shooting scene to pay their respects to Hussle, calling him a champion of the community, playing his music and leaving candles and flowers.Hussle was from the Crenshaw neighborhood and worked on music with members of both the Crips and Blood gangs, TMZ reported. Before he was shot, Hussle tweeted: ``Having strong enemies is a blessing.''After news broke that Hussle died, a stream of condolences flooded the Internet. This doesn’t make any sense! My spirit is shaken by this! Dear God may His spirit Rest In Peace and May You grant divine comfort to all his loved ones! ??????I’m so sorry this happened to you @nipseyhussle pic.twitter.com/rKZ2agxm2a— Rihanna (@rihanna) April 1, 2019 4304
Looking to undermine rival Joe Biden 20 days before the election, President Donald Trump’s campaign has seized on a tabloid story offering bizarre twists to a familiar line of attack: Biden’s relationship with Ukraine. But the story in the New York Post raises more questions than answers, including about the authenticity of an email at the center of the story. The origins of the story also trace back to Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who has repeatedly pushed unfounded claims about Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Even if the emails in the Post are legitimate, they don’t validate Trump and Giuliani’s claims that Biden’s actions were influenced by his son’s business dealings in Ukraine. The email reportedly is from Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to Burisma’s board, and reads thank you "for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent (sic) some time together. It’s realty (sic) an honor and pleasure.” The Biden campaign told the Associated Press that it could not find a meeting between the then vice president and Pozharskyi on Biden's schedule. Given that the emails came directly from Trump's representatives, there are questions on the authenticity of the emails, which the Post reports came from a device left by Hunter Biden at a repair shop. Meanwhile, Twitter and Facebook have announced that they're limiting the spread of the post while they work to validate the report's authenticity. Even if authentic, the report would appear to still violate Twitter's anti-hacking guidelines."The policy, established in 2018, prohibits the use of our service to distribute content obtained without authorization. We don’t want to incentivize hacking by allowing Twitter to be used as distribution for possibly illegally obtained materials," Twitter said in a statement. The social media platforms were criticized by Trump supporters on Wednesday for alleged censorship. 1911

LONDON – A recording has reportedly emerged of Tom Cruise laying into the crew of “Mission: Impossible 7” over people not following COVID-19 protocols. The Sun, a British tabloid, was the first to report on the incident, releasing audio of the confrontation on Tuesday. The New York Times and Variety have since confirmed the authenticity of the clip.Cruise apparently became angry when he saw two crew members standing too close together at a computer screen, violating a rule that says people must stand six feet to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In the profanity-laden audio, the actor can be heard saying, “We are creating thousands of jobs, you mother****ers. I don’t ever want to see it again.”Cruise goes on to say that if he sees anyone on the crew breaking protocol again, they’ll be fired. In his rant, Cruise also said they want the film’s production to be “the gold standard” and that other movies are being made in Hollywood because of them.“We are creating thousands of jobs you mother****ers,” Cruise reportedly said. The Sun did not say when the audio was recorded, but Reuters reports that the filmmakers arrived in London earlier this month. The film, which Cruise is starring in and co-producing, is scheduled to be released next fall. 1265
