(KGTV) -- Local cannabis shops are sounding the alarm, saying higher state tax rates set to take effect next year will drive more customers to the black market.Starting January 1, the state will change the way it calculates the excise tax on all marijuana products, effectively raising the rate by 12.5 percent. The agency said it analyzed thousands of transactions and determined the state excise tax wasn’t capturing 15 percent of gross receipts of all cannabis sales, as the law requires. The CDTFA is required to analyze cannabis transactions and set the tax rate every six months. (KGTV) - A new group formed on social media in response to the destruction of looters and arsonists after Saturday's peaceful protest against injustice.La Mesa Civil Defense is a Facebook group formed Monday by Attorney Scott McMillan. McMIllan was devastated by the chaos Saturday night, "we lost our museum, we lost our art gallery, we lost two of our banks... I did not want to see it [La Mesa] burn to the ground."McMillan said the goal of the page is to communicate how they will protect the town should anything happen in the future, "La Mesa Civil Defense is going to stand in front of the buildings with fire extinguishers and garden hoses and their presence."He said he stood at Nebo Dr. and Lemon Ave. from 7:30 p.m. Saturday night until 6 a.m. guarding local businesses and trying to get looters to stop causing destruction.He said a few people spoke with him.One man explained he was upset about George Floyd's death, McMiIllan said he responded saying, "how does breaking (a neighboring boutique that's been around for 10 years) her windows and stealing her merchandise, honor the memory of George Floyd?"He said the man left and came back to tell McMillan he was right.Those are the conversations he hopes blossom from this group and bring peace to La Mesa.McMillan said he is not asking anyone to use lethal force unless they feel like their life is being threatened.He said they are stepping in to help police and firefighters overwhelmed during these times. 10News reached out to La Mesa PD for a comment and have not heard back. 1571

LARGO, Fla. — A Largo teen is being hailed a hero for his quick thinking and calm demeanor, two things paramedics say were crucial in saving his dad's life.In August, then 18-year-old Zachary Musgrave reacted in seconds after his dad had a major heart attack in the basement of the family's home."I was pretty terrified. I just held myself together the best I could," Musgrave said.Musgrave quickly dialed 911 an got through to 911 telecommunicator Matthew Albright, who coached him through performing CPR for the very first time."He was cool, calm and collected and followed directions to do exactly what he needed to do," Albright said.For seven minutes, Musgrave performed CPR on his dad before paramedics arrived. It's something first responders say saved his dad's life.Niesa Jones was one of the first Sunstar Paramedics to arrive on the scene."That's absolutely what happened," she said. "His son saved his life. We helped."David Musgrave, Zachary's father, was rushed to Largo Medical Center, and just nine days after his heart attack, he was cleared to come home. Paramedics called his recovery a miracle because he came into the hospital under cardiac arrest with a 100% blockage in his left anterior descending artery — what some refer to as a "widowmaker heart attack.""I looked at his charts and it's truly a miracle that the man is walking," said Patti Squires, the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Largo Medical Center.David Musgrave says his son has become his hero."I'm so proud of him. If it wasn't for him starting the process, I probably wouldn't be here," he said."I'm just thankful that I was there and I was able to save my dad. I'm just happy he's here with us today," Zachary Musgrave said.On Wednesday, David Musgrave and his four children met the first responders that helped keep him alive.Alana Morris, one of the first Largo Firefighter paramedics to arrive on the scene, said the ceremony was touching."To actually have a patient come back and thank us for what we did and to see him alive was just a great experience. There are no words to describe that," Morris said.Now, the Musgrave family's story is inspiring a new mission to save lives.On Nov. 3 at noon, Largo Medical Center will offer free hands-only CPR training online, which will be open to everyone. Larry Nassar has been moved from a federal prison in Tucson, Ariz. after his lawyer claims Nassar was assaulted in prison.The disgraced former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics doctor was moved to a Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. It's a place where inmates stay while waiting to be transferred to another prison.Nassar pleaded guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault in November 2017 after being charged with molesting seven girls, all but one of whom were gymnasts. Those sexual assaults happened at Michigan State University.In a filing by his attorneys, Nassar claims that he was abused in prison and also mentions the time when he was charged at by one of the victims' father in court."Dr. Nassar reports, that in late May he was physically attacked in federal prison within a few hours of being placed in general population," the court filing reads.  953

LAKELAND, Fla. -- A family argument on Mother's Day turned violent and ended in the arrest of a mother and a son in Lakeland, Florida. Seth Bryant, 27, was arrested for felony battery (domestic violence) on his father, 58-year-old Clayton Bryant, after deputies say Seth and Clayton got into a physical argument over alcohol. The father and son were arguing after Seth demanded he be allowed to have more alcohol, according to the arrest affidavits. Seth reportedly put his fist against his father's face and pushed him with it, deputies say. After deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene, Seth reportedly made numerous derogatory racial comments toward the deputy who is black. As Seth was being arrested, Judy Bryant, 54, shoved her husband against a counter and said "How's this for domestic violence?" She then refused commands by the deputies and resisted the deputy's efforts to arrest her. Ultimately, she was placed into handcuffs and was arrested. Judy Bryant was charged with misdemeanor battery (domestic violence). 1083
