SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting this week in Mountain View.Police said 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Castro-Gutierrez was shot and killed after officers responded to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 5 a.m. on Monday over reports of a violent disturbance involving a weapon.According to SDPD, Castro-Gutierrez was staying at a home as a guest when the residents were woken up by him. He had reportedly been acting paranoid and ripped a metal curtain rod from a window and began breaking windows and other objects in the home.RELATED: San Diego Police shoot, kill vandalism suspect in Mountain ViewWhen police arrived, they saw Castro-Gutierrez in the front window and could hear him breaking objects and yelling inside.SDPD says officers gave directions in English and Spanish to try and communicate with Castro-Gutierrez but got no response. Eventually, Castro-Gutierrez crawled out of a broken window and made his way to the front of the property where officers were.Police said Castro-Gutierrez began to run at full speed toward them with the metal pole, prompting three officers to fire their weapons at him: One officer fired a bean bag round, another officer fired a Taser, and a third officer fired several rounds from his service pistol, SDPD says.Castro-Gutierrez was hit by at least one round and fell to the ground. Officers started first aid at the scene, but Castro-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the hospital.The officer who fired his service pistol was identified as Isai Castillo, a two-year veteran of SDPD assigned to Southeastern Division.SDPD's homicide unit is currently investigating the shooting, after which the San Diego County District Attorney's Office will review the case to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans spend years saving up enough cash for a down payment on a home, but now the FBI says fraudsters are getting much better at stealing it.Hackers are getting into the emails of private real estate agents and escrow companies - duping would-be buyers into wiring their down payment cash to false accounts. They're also getting tipped off by celebratory Facebook photos about accepted offers, using clues like listing agent signs to get in touch with the buyers and pretend to be escrow companies - asking for payment. In all, the FBI says Americans lost nearly billion in real estate wire fraud in fiscal 2017, up 50 fold from fiscal 2016. San Diego special agent Chris Christopherson says the FBI can reverse wire transfers if contacted quickly after they happen. He said internationally they have a day or two, and domestic about a week. He said San Diegans can protect themselves by verifying payment information they get by email either in person or by phone with a trusted source. "Make sure you're not using a phone number you got from the email, be skeptical, verify it separately," he said. The FBI said another way to help protect yourself is to never to reply to emails that ask for financial information. Instead, forward them to the recipient you know, typing in their address. San Diego realtor Gary Kent was selling a duplex last year when hackers got the buyer to wire a ,000 down payment to a fraudulent account. They mimicked an email pretending to be from the escrow company."The buyer went down to the bank, said 'I need to wire the money,' and they said, this wasn't the same account number you did before," Kent said. Kent noted that the bank was able to reverse the transfer. 1804

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans are desperate for affordable housing and scammers are taking notice and using new tricks. 10News investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner spoke to the District Attorney's Office about how the internet is flooded right now with local rentals ads that are fake, and how renters can avoid getting burned.When Nicole Lloyd saw a Craigslist ad for a three-bedroom home in Clairemont for 50 a month, she jumped on it. “It sounded too good to be true, but [I had to] check it out,” she tells us.The person who said he was the owner sent her a text. “He said that he was out-of-state,” says Lloyd.He gave her a code for the front door and told her to let herself in. McHugh says online rental scams are hugely prevalent right now, but most of the time scammers won't let renters see the property before asking for a wire transfer, which makes Lloyd's situation unique. The company confirmed that the house was being used in a scam.A statement from the company to 10News reads, “With regard to the home on Broadlawn Street, we have seen fraudulent activity, but fortunately no one has fallen victim to the attempted scam at this home. We have posted a sign in the home, as we do in all of our homes, alerting potential residents of potential scams so that they that will be particularly vigilant. We have asked Craigslist to remove the fraudulent listing, which they have (we do not advertise on Craigslist), and we have turned off the self-show option on the home so that prospective residents are able to view the home only if accompanied by an Invitation Homes agent.”“I was on Apartments.com, Zillow, Craigslist and a few other recommended [sites] that people gave me,” says Rebecca Weinrib.RELATED: San Diego's top neighborhoods to get more rental space for the moneyWeinrib admits that even she almost fell for online rental scams when she was recently looking for a place in Little Italy.“I went to law school. I run a company. I started a nonprofit…however, I don't remember seeing this situation two years ago when I was renting,” she adds.Weinrib was bombarded with requests to send money before she was allowed to see the properties. “A lot of them would say, ‘Wire it.’” She tells us a lot of them would also tell her that they don’t live locally.“You'll often see these scams saying that the person you need to talk to is deployed so just send the money and information now and we'll deal with it later,” says McHugh. He adds, “If you can't go inside and see the property before you're required to exchange money or personal identifying information, that's another huge red flag.”McHugh also says that it's best to be cautious when landlords are using auto-generated email addresses and when landlords post ads that contain several grammatical errors. 3405

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews rescued a paraglider who crashed into a dangerous Torrey Pines bluff Friday.SDFD crews arrived at the site of the crash at around 1 p.m. Sky10 footage showed the person clinging to the cliff, wrapped in the wreckage of a broken glider, just over a section of Blacks Beach.Lt. Rich Stropky says the man was in training to become a paragliding pilot.
