Businesses across the country that are taking part in the “Open to All” campaign are placing stickers on their store fronts to show customers they are inclusive.Voodoo Doughnuts in Colorado was one of the first businesses to take part in the initiative, and now, hundreds of others are signing up.The “Open to All” coalition, which includes over 1,200 businesses, believes no one should have to ever worry about whether they will be denied service.The campaign was sparked by an incident that happened at a Colorado cake shop back in 2012. The shop refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it didn't align with their religious beliefs. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, where the ruling was in favor of the cake shop.Daniel Ramos with One Colorado, a non-profit organization for the LGBTQ community, says that ruling was a turning point."We know we have so much work to do to make sure people, regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their gender identity, have access to businesses that won't deny them, simply because who they are and who they love,” says Ramos.Ramos believes the “Open to All” campaign is good for all businesses. "Over the past number of years, we have seen businesses stand on the side of equality because they know equality means business,” Ramos says. “It’s good for them, for their companies, for their employees to feel safe, supported and welcome."A huge contributor for the movement is Yelp. When you open the app, it will tell you if a business is participating. The old adobe buildings have been beautifully restored to their original splendor. Carrillo bought the property in 1937. His famous friends, including Clark Gable would often visit the ranch. In every building you can see Carrillo's vision for preserving early ranch architecture. Adobe was a central theme in Leo's remembrance of of his childhood ranches. After Carrillo's daughter, Tony, left the estate, the buildings began to fall apart. The City of Carlsbad acquired the remaining 10.5-acre ranch in 1977. California is still counting ballots more than three weeks after Election Day.The slow counting process has been underscored by a series of House races in California carrying on for days past November 6. Now, the only remaining uncalled US House race is in California's 21st Congressional District.There, Republican Rep. David Valadao trails Democratic challenger TJ Cox by 506 votes -- or about half a percentage point -- with votes still being counted. If Cox holds on to win, it would give Democrats a net pickup of 40 House seats this year.So why is the process so slow?California officials say the effort is built with a series of safeguards, many of which don't exist in other states. The bottom line: California's vote-counting process is built to take a long time."The philosophy here is, while it may take a little bit longer to finish counting ballots in California, the policies are in place to ensure that all votes can be properly processed and added to the tally -- and I guess better said, that all voices can be heard in the political process," California Secretary of State Alex Padilla said in a phone interview Wednesday.The state's laws give its voters, about two-thirds of whom cast their ballots by mail, more time to send in their ballots. As long as they are postmarked by Election Day and arrive at county elections offices by Friday -- three days after the election -- they're counted.California also requires counties to give voters time to fix any issues with their ballots -- such as a missing signature -- and requires counties to contact those voters to inform them of any problems.When voters mail ballots to the wrong county, those counties are required to send them to the right one.The state allows same-day voter registration.
