SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a 16-year-old was shot and killed in Lincoln Park Saturday night.Police responded to the 4900 block of Magnus Way around 10:20 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.When they arrived, officers found the teen in a driveway with a single gunshot wound. The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police say. Police say the teen has been identified, but his name isn’t being released at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Council Tuesday night unanimously passed the location of a high-pressure underground pipeline to move sewage from San Diego's Morena treatment plant to a facility in Miramar. The City Council proposed constructing the pipe under a hilly route beneath some of the busiest intersections in Clairemont and University City.City Councilmember David Alvarez issued the following statement after the vote: 455

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell on Tuesday is expected to formally announce enforcement plans to help with concerns over crowd control in Ocean Beach.Campbell, who represents District 2, said in a news release, “Our office continues to field calls regarding increased crowds gathering at Veteran’s Plaza in Ocean Beach on Wednesday evenings. While I appreciate the San Diego Police Department’s increased presence last week, it’s clear more comprehensive action needs to be taken to keep San Diegans safe.”Residents in the area say large gatherings have been consistently happening despite San Diego County public health orders restricting mass gatherings.According to OB residents, big crowds assemble Wednesday nights at Veteran’s Plaza, and many attendees are seen not wearing masks or practicing social distancing.Ocean Beach Town Council President Mark Winkie told ABC 10News in a previous interview that residents “want people to understand this is our community. You’re welcome to be here, but you need to adhere to social distancing rules and respect our community.”Winkie has met with City of San Diego officials about the gatherings in OB. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police made six DUI arrests during a downtown checkpoint Saturday night. The checkpoint was conducted on the 1400 block of G Street between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. In total, 1,765 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 526 were screened. Six drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, two drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license. Two citations were also issued for unspecified reasons at the checkpoint. “The San Diego Police Department will be conducting another DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint or DUI saturation patrol on March 15, 2020, in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways,” police said in a news release. 792

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the city's Get It Done mobile app has led to thousands of tons of trash being removed.In the app's first three years, more than 7,000 tons of trash, debris, and waste has been removed from public spaces around the city.The city broke that number up into:Illegal dumping/litter removal - 4,440 tons of wasteEncampment debris cleanup - 2,528 tons of wasteThe app was made available in 2017 to encourage residents to report trash and other concerns in their neighborhoods. Since then, city crews have responded to more than 6,500 reports and conducted more than 32,000 proactive cleanups.The average response time has also shrunk from 25 days in 2017 to five days in 2020, the city says.Council members have also been able to use the data received from the app to identify hot spots in their districts.The app is part of the city's "Clean SD" program. The program was born out of a need to clean unsanitary areas in the public, including homeless encampments, according to the city. Since 2017, the city has sanitized and power washed 18,000 city blocks, or about 1,800 miles of sidewalk."Clean SD is all about restoring a sense of pride in our communities and making sure our neighborhoods are clean and safe for everyone. Our cleanup crews have accomplished that and so much more," Faulconer said this week from the site of a frequent illegal dumping site in Paradise Hills. "This has truly been a citywide push to beautify our neighborhoods and we encourage San Diegans to keep using the ‘Get It Done’ app to report issues that we need to address in their community." 1631
