BRASILIA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Brasilia on Wednesday for a summit of Brazil, Russia, India and China slated for Thursday and Friday, and a state visit to the Latin American state.At the summit of the four countries -- collectively known under their acronym BRIC, the leaders will discuss the global economy and financial situation, reform of the international financial system, climate change and cooperation among the four countries, Chinese diplomats said.President Hu has chosen Latin America as the destination of his first overseas trip so far this year. UNITED NATIONS, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday called on the UN Security Council to quickly respond to and take actions on Israel's deadly attack against a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza."China is shocked by Israel's attack on a multinational convoy carrying international aid to Gaza which resulted in heavy casualties," said Yang Tao, a counsellor of the Chinese permanent mission to the United Nations, at the 15-nation council's emergency meeting."We condemn Israel's actions targeting humanitarian workers and civilians," he said. "We support a quick response by the Security Council and take necessary actions."Yang also expressed serious concern about the "grim" humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, especially the Gaza Strip."We urge Israel immediately and fully implement Security Council resolution 1860, fully open border crossings, lift blockade on the Gaza Strip so as to allow unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and allow local people to achieve early recovery and restore a normal life," he added.The council was currently meeting behind closed doors to discuss the text of a draft presidential statement submitted by Turkey.
BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- China is disappointed the European Union (EU) has decided to launch an anti-subsidy investigation into imported Chinese coated paper, Ministry of Commerce (MOC) spokesman Yao Jian said Saturday."China will closely follow this issue and reserves its right to take necessary measures in accordance with WTO rules," Yao said.He said the coated paper probe is the EU's first anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese products.The EU launched an anti-dumping investigation on Chinese coated paper two months ago, he said.Increased trade protectionism is a major threat to the world economy recovery, Yao said."To create a win-win situation, China and the EU should settle trade disputes cooperatively," he added.MOC data shows the EU initiated seven anti-dumping investigations against China in 2009.The EU is China's largest trade partner, with bilateral trade volume exceeding 360 billion U.S. dollars last year.
