JINAN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese vocational school blamed for staging cyber attacks on Google and other firms said Saturday the allegations are unfounded."Investigation in the staff found no trace the attacks originated from our school," Li Zixiang, Party chief at Lanxiang Vocational School in Shandong Province, told Xinhua.Students of Lanxiang are still in their winter vacation, Li said.He said Lanxiang has no relationship and does not cooperate with the military, adding that school authorities do not have military backing. He also dismissed the suggestion of involvement of a "specific computer science class" taught by a Ukrainian professor."There is no Ukrainian teacher in the school and we have never employed any foreign staff," Li confirmed."The report was unfounded. Please show the evidence," he said.Li's remarks came after the New York Times reported Thursday cyber attacks on Google and other American firms have been traced to Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School, which the report alleged has ties to the Chinese military. The report, citing unidentified investigators, said there is evidence suggesting a link between the attacks and a computer science class at Lanxiang taught by a Ukrainian professor.Lanxiang, founded in 1984, has about 20,000 students learning vocational skills such as cooking, auto repair and hairdressing. The computer science class offers basic courses about Photoshop, 3D drawing and Word -- not software engineering."It was not until 2006 that our graduates began to join the army. So far, 38 students have been recruited by the military for their talent in auto repair, cooking and electric welding," said Zhou Hui, director of the school's general office, who stressed it is natural for someone to join the army at a proper age.No comment was available from Shanghai's Jiaotong University.Google said on Jan. 12 it might pull out of the Chinese market, citing disagreement with government policies and unidentified attacks targeting Google's services in China.

BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Monday that an upcoming high-level political and economic dialogue would be "very important" for China and the United States to solve problems the two countries have regarding trade and currency. The second round of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue, slated for May in Beijing, "will be a chance for China and the United States to settle disputes and problems," Wen told a group of overseas entrepreneurs attending a two-day forum in Beijing."We attached great importance to the dialogue," he added. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) meets with foreign delegates attending the two-day China Development Forum 2010, in Beijing, China, March 22, 2010Wen's remarks came as the U.S. is pressing China to appreciate the yuan and limiting Chinese products from entering its market by raising trade barriers."The China-U.S. relationship is of great importance," Wen said, noting it concerns the fundamental interests of the two peoples, and its significance goes further than that.Highlighting trade ties of overall bilateral relations, Wen said he believes some existing differences and problems could be solved through fair consultation."Looking back, the disputes and differences between China and the United States have been settled one by one, leading to an increasingly close political and economic relationship," said the premier. He said China welcomes American enterprises to explore business in China, and would expand imports from the United States in the future. The China Development Forum, with a theme of "China and the World Economy: Growth, Restructuring and Cooperation", drew over 200 foreign executives from prominent transnationals including Ford, Rio Tinto and Royal Dutch Shell. In response to a question from Chairman of the Morgan Stanley Asia Stephen Roach concerning emerging trade disputes and protectionism, Premier Wen urged all countries and companies not to start trade and currency wars, which would be harmful to the recovery of world economy."We are happy that the world economy shows good signs of recovery, however, some factors make us feel that the recovery will not be so smooth," he said, referring to high unemployment in some big economies, unstable prices of bulk products and inflation. The premier called on people around the world to stay cool-headed at a time when world economy starts to resume. He said China promises not to pursue trade surplus and wants to enlarge the country's imports. He said China's future economic growth relies on technology development, in particular, high technology such as life and biological technologies. As for China's emission cut plan, Premier Wen stressed China regards its energy conservation and emission cut as an important strategy throughout the 11th and 12th five-year plan as well as its future development."We will implement our goal of 40-45 percent reduction of carbon intensity by 2020 in the 12th five-year plan," he said.Concerning China's capital market reform, Wen acknowledged that some problems still exists in the management and monitoring of the financial sector, adding China is determined to establish an "integrated, sound and sustainable" financial system.China would combine direct and indirect financing to expand the role of the capital market, he said. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (C) walks with foreign delegates attending the two-day China Development Forum 2010 before their meeting in Beijing, China, March 22, 2010

BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's police departments will launch a 30-day campaign starting Wednesday to hunt down fugitives who are suspected of having committed a crime known as fake invoice fraud. The campaign will have a code name known as "spring thunder", said Liu Jinguo, Vice Minister of Public Security. While addressing a teleconference Monday, the vice minister said: "As the Spring Festival is drawing near, the demand for fake invoices remains strong. Perpetrators will get on the move."Statistics show that the police across the country uncovered 237 cases involving fake invoice fraud and detained 234 suspects in January. They also destroyed eight large sites making and selling fake invoices, and confiscated more than 12 million fake invoices in the past month.Fake invoice vendors are common in Chinese cities, where they offer receipts used for tax purposes. Such invoices could cause huge losses in tax revenues and could feed illegal activities, such as smuggling, money laundering and corruption. The Spring Festival, or the New Year's Day on the Chinese lunar calendar, will fall Sunday. It is an occasion for reunions of relatives and friends, completed with much fun and plenty of eatings. Spring Festival is the most important event for people of Chinese origin.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese bankcard holders' consumer confidence in January was up year on year, according to an index issued jointly by China Unionpay and Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday. The Bankcard Consumer Confidence Index (BCCI) stood at 86.81 in January, 2.44 points higher from the same period last year, and stayed at basically the same level as December 2009, said the index report. The increasing consumer confidence mainly stemmed from China's steadily improving macroeconomic conditions, the report said.China's economy resumed a double-digital growth in the fourth quarter last year, pushing the annual figure beyond the government target of 8 percent at 8.7 percent. The index also resulted from an increase of 9.1 million urban jobs and a higher-than-8-percent income rise for urban and rural residents in 2009, according to the report. The report also attributed the rising confidence to people's growing demand during the New Year and the approaching Spring Festival, the Chinese lunar new year, which falls on Feb. 14 this year. The report said China Unionpay would release the BCCI index on a monthly basis starting 2010.

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Some foreign diplomats and journalists based in Beijing Sunday were invited to watch Road of Rejuvenation, a music-and-dance epic highlighting China's twists and turns in the past 170 years. The gala at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) was presented by more than 1,000 performers, featuring China's modern and contemporary history with chorus, dances, and stage screens.Iwona Rogacka-Hu, an officer with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, said every step of the country's progress was presented clearly in the epic gala and she was moved by the themes of the mother and motherland.Peter A. Fischer, a Swiss correspondent with Zurich Times (NZZ) Beijing Office, said he saw many battles and difficult times in China's modern history through the show."I hope these will never come again, and China will grow more prosperous and open further up," Fischer said. The gala was produced to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in October 2009. It debuted in Beijing on Sept. 20 last year.Zhang Jigang, director of the show, said so far 40 performances had been staged at the NCPA, and there are 40 more to go."The tickets for the upcoming shows have been sold out," said Wang Zhengming, vice president of the NCPA.Zhang said the gala had been filmed and would be available in cinemas soon.
