China's Tiangong-1 space lab re-entered the Earth's atmosphere around 8.15 a.m. Monday (8:15 p.m. ET Sunday) in a fiery fall, China's Manned Space Agency said.Tiangong-1 plummeted into the middle of the South Pacific, the space agency said."Most parts were burned up in the re-entry process," the agency said.The out-of-control 40-foot long Tiangong-1, or "Heavenly Palace," is one of China's highest profile space projects. The unmanned space lab was launched in September 2011 as a prototype for China's ultimate space goal: a permanent space station that is expected to launch around 2022.But the Chinese government told the United Nations in May 2017 that its space lab had "ceased functioning" in March 2016, without saying exactly why.The incident was embarrassing for China's space program but it hasn't delayed its progress. Called “Salt Drift Pointe” the owners say they wanted to honor the industrial history driven by the old salt ponds that helped move the region from farming to industry. Over the years, the South Bay city has changed dramatically. Switching gears from an agricultural hub to an industrial one. Now, another shift is underway. One aimed at helping the city bring in more tourists. Lemons, oranges and lots of celery once dominated the landscape of Chula Vista. But that all changed in 1911 when the city was officially incorporated as part of California. RELATED: New event venue honors South Bay historyAs World War II shook the globe, Chula Vista began to shift from away from agriculture, moving toward an industrial revolution, according to the South Bay Historical Society. Now, Chula Vista is trying to increase tourism with the development of the Bayfront. "The west side of Chicago is often labeled as more dangerous, is often labeled as one of the areas that people try to avoid.”“A lot of people have misconceptions about the west side of Chicago,” said boxer Tyler Matthews.But on the corner of Karlov and Kamerling, there is a sanctuary, known as The Bloc.“When you step into a boxing gym, you think you’re gonna learn how to knock people out and fight other people,” Cannon explained. “But you really end up learning how to fight the things that are holding you back internally, so you can maximize your potential in all areas of your life.”For the youth that come to this former church turned boxing gym, Cannon is in their corner.“We offer boxing as a gateway to build relationships with young people, to connect them to resources that are often missing in our community's resources,” Cannon said.He knows the fight many of these students face. He is a former teacher, who started this boxing club in his classroom in 2016.“You grow up in a community where you’re hearing shootings every weekend. We can't expect you to walk into a school building and act like everything is fine, but that’s what we do in this city,” Cannon said.Dozens of students every week now come to The Bloc to take on the opponent that can be life.“Every punch I throw, every jab I throw in the ring has been the product of tons of people working on that jab with me,” said Corey Rowland.Two years ago, Rowland needed someone in his corner.“I started playing around in the streets a little bit,” Rowland said. “Getting into things I shouldn’t have been getting into. Drugs, crime and stuff like that."He says The Bloc helped him with rent, helped land him a job, and helped him channel a fighting spirit.“The work I do and the hard sweat, punching a bag, I’ve been doing that all by myself but the whole time I have that team behind me,” Rowland said.This year, the Bloc has helped in ways beyond just the ring. They’ve organized a food pantry to help members of the community in need.As the school year begins, Cannon is establishing an academic support center to make sure all students can connect to virtual learning and get their school work done.“It takes like hope and optimism because that's what a lot of kids in the west side community need,” said boxer Tyler Matthews.Stats may say Chicago’s west side has poverty, health issues, and violence, but The Bloc will tell you the stats aren’t looking at the people of this part of Chicago close enough.“If you’re a kid who maybe you’ve come up poor, maybe you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, maybe your parents are incarcerated, you’ve had challenges to overcome when you walk through these doors, you’re not at risk, you’re determined,” Cannon said. 3014

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man suspected of robbing a South Bay credit union was arrested following a crash Wednesday afternoon. According to Chula Vista Police, a man entered the Cal Coast Credit Union on the 300 block of East H Street around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the man approached the teller window with his hand in his pocket simulating a weapon and demanded cash from the employee. After receiving the cash, the suspect left the credit union, getting into a getaway vehicle. Police were able to locate suspect based on vehicle information provided by a customer at the credit union. Officers spotted the vehicle going eastbound on H Street and tried to pull the suspect over, but he didn’t stop instead leading police on a chase. At some point during the chase, police say the man ran a red light on Otay Lakes Road, slamming into another vehicle. Both the suspect and victim in the crash were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police haven’t yet released the name of the suspect but say he is under arrest for the bank robbery and felony evasion. 1100

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a Christopher Columbus statue was vandalized in Chula Vista Sunday. According to police, officers were called to Discovery Park around noon after neighbors reported that someone poured red paint over the statue. When officers arrived they also found the words “genocide” and “FU” spray painted onto the figure. A brass plaque that used to be attached to the statue was also missing. Police say they believe the vandalism happened overnight Saturday. Crews from the city responded quickly to clean the statue.As of Sunday afternoon, police say they don't have a suspect description, but added that the investigation is ongoing. 696
