It was like four or five pills," she said. "It’s like, ok so, this is what you want me to pay and if I can’t do that, I guess he’ll just die?"On Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom laid out several healthcare proposals designed to lower prescription drug costs, including a plan to make California the first state to make its own generic prescription drugs.The Democratic governor wants the nation’s most populous state to contract with generic drug companies to make medications on its behalf so it could sell them to its nearly 40 million residents. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Consumer spending in San Diego was down nearly .3 billion between February and April 2020, showing just how badly the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the local economy.Since stay-at-home orders began in March, SANDAG says taxable sales in the region dropped from an average of .3 billion to billion in April.The largest losses in the region were seen at apparel stores (an 83% decrease in sales) and restaurants (down 67%).On the other side, big-box retailers like Costco, Target, and Walmart have fared well, SANDAG says. Grocery stores and pharmacy, though, were actually down 10% in taxable sales. Home improvement sales were also up, likely due to stimulus checks, SANDAG adds."It is interesting to learn that grocery stores and pharmacy sales are actually down by 10%, while home improvement sales have spiked," said SANDAG Chief Economist Ray Major. "We can assume that during the pandemic, people had more time to work on outdoor landscaping, gardens, and other home beautification projects. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Border agents have seen a huge drop in traffic along the San Diego Sector ports of entry since the Trump Administration restricted all non-essential travel at the U.S.-Mexico border last Friday.In a conference call with reporters on Monday morning, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed new details about its plan to handle the implications of the restrictions on the migrant population and the cross-border worker population. Recent tweets posted by CBP showed empty ports of entry. “We have seen about a 70% decrease on average at all our ports of entry,” said a CBP spokesperson during Monday’s conference call. That plunge in foot and vehicle traffic comes after the border restrictions took effect on Saturday.CBP said Monday that the restrictions don't apply to U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents or those traveling for medical, work or educational purposes.The agency reports that people’s work verification or documentation is currently on a sort of “honor system”. “At this point in time, we are not formally asking for verification or employment ID,” said a spokesperson on Monday.A spokesperson also reaffirmed that most apprehended migrants will be returned immediately, adding in part, “Individuals are no longer being held in detention areas.Quick interviews will be conducted in the field.
