SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The City Council is expected to decide on a proposal that would turn two purchased hotels into housing for San Diego’s homeless, and on Monday, Mayor Kevin Faulconer made a push in favor of the plan.Part of California’s Project Homekey includes an initiative to provide more homeless Californians with permanent housing amid the COVID-19 crisis. A lot of loitering, crowds, so we're not informed on what this will look like," said Josh.He said if the purchase gets approved, he wants there to be strict guidelines for tenants."People who are elderly, have kids, or demonstrated work history. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The all-clear was given after a suspicious device forced the evacuation of a building at San Diego City College Monday. The device was reported Monday afternoon in or near Building A, according to the school. The building serves as administrative offices. The college says no classes were affected by the evacuation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The California Highway Patrol said a person arrested at gunpoint on Interstate 15 in San Diego Thursday was suspected of driving illegally in the HOV lane and leading an officer on a pursuit.The chase happened on southbound I-15 just south of Aero Dr. at 5:30 p.m.Officers said the driver was in the high-occupancy vehicle lane and failed to pull over, leading to the brief pursuit.There are no reports of any injuries or a reason why the driver did not yield for the traffic stop. 508

Anyone who believes they have symptoms resembling the novel coronavirus (which are fever, coughing, and shortness of breath) is asked to contact their medical provider, who will help determine if they need to be tested."We have already identified and issued warning letters to companies found selling and promoting fraudulent items, and we expect additional such actions will be forthcoming," the FDA said.Anyone who believes they have found a vendor selling fake testing kits can report them to the FDA. 1570

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The names Linda and Charles Van Kessler might have sounded new, but their efforts were anything but."I started the charity in 1978 and I had to work very hard through jobs when I came here to California," Charles Van Kessler said.Charles was an orphan at a young age in Europe when he arrived to the states and met his wife, Linda."I just felt I needed to do something and it's been phenomenal since," Charles described. "We want to help children that don't have it as easy and are bearing burdens that are too much for their age."That's when the couple created Passion4Kids, a non-profit that helped handicapped, abused and neglected children."We bring toys we bring games we pray with them, we play with them. We do just a lot of stuff to make these kids happier."They felt the effects of COVID-19 like many other organizations.
