Currently, there are no community-spread cases of the virus in the County. However, officials are asking the community to prepare for the event. According to the city’s development services department people, more than 200 people went through the permitting process in 2018. “It fits for us to build an additional unit, the ADU since the council changed their ordinances,” said San Diego resident Efrain Conrique. Efrain Conrique has been in the same house since the 1960s but is now planning to build a 1,100 square foot accessory dwelling unit in his backyard. The house is for his granddaughter. But, some schools won’t have to wait that long.As of Friday afternoon, 56 elementary schools applied for a waiver through the county health department. If approved, it would allow them to bring students back on campus regardless of our status on the state watch list.The waiver is only open to schools serving K-6 students. Once applications are reviewed by the county they’ll be sent to Sacramento.“The state can give input or guidance,” said Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “If we don’t hear back in three days then those will be approved.”Mt. Helix Academy in La Mesa submitted their application this week.“I’m hoping to hear back from the state and the county by next week.” Said Director, Mike Collins. “Our plan is to welcome students back on campus on Monday August 31st when we’re ready for those kids.”The school has been open for summer programs where they implemented new safety measures like masks, frequent cleaning, and social distancing.“I saw all the students had their masks on and I made a big deal, ‘Everyone has their masks on! SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire Urban Search and Rescue task force is on their way to Hawaii to prepare for Hurricane Lane's landfall.The hurricane could bring as many as 20 inches of rain onshore and winds of more than 100 miles per hour.The search and rescue task force is traveling with 55,000 pounds of equipment, hoping to get ahead of the hurricane before it makes landfall.The crew will land in Kauai and then get deployed to wherever help is needed. For the first 72-hours, they must be completely self-sufficient, relying on MRE's and having enough water to survive.The team could be in Hawaii for as long as three weeks but it's expected they will return in 14 days. 692

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have made an arrest in the death of a 20-year-old in the Bay Terraces area last year.Police said 26-year-old John Orozco was arrested Wednesday for the murder of Joaquin Ruiz of San Diego.On July 12, 2019, Ruiz was found in a vehicle off the side of the road just before midnight in the 7000 block of Paradise Valley Rd. He was suffering from a bullet wound to his upper body.Police began first aid at the scene, but Ruiz died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.The investigation into Orozco is ongoing, and no other details surrounding his arrest or involvement in the murder were released.SDPD asked that anyone who may have information related to the case to call the department's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 800
