BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The first seven companies applying for listing on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM), a Nasdaq-alike market in China, have got green lights from the country's securities regulator on Thursday.     They are in the fields of software, medical equipment and medicines. They planned to raise 2.27 billion yuan (332.65 million U.S. dollars), from the IPOs, according to China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).     "This means the seven enterprises are eligible to list on the market, but they still have some flaws in information issuance, which need to be improved," said Jiang Xinhong, a member of the review commission.     The flaws don't hinder the listings, but these enterprises should go through some necessary procedures before getting listed, said the CSRC.     The CSRC had received 155 applications for IPOs on the GEM as of Sept. 10, since it started to accept applications of the GEM on July 26.

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Oil prices plummeted to below 70 U.S. dollars a barrel on Monday as investors were rattled by the sharp decline in China's equities market.     Light, sweet crude for October delivery lost 2.78 dollars, or 3.8 percent, to settle at 69.96 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell to the intraday low of 69.13 dollars a barrel. Global stock markets dropped broadly after China's Shanghai Composite Index dived almost 7 percent, spurring concerns about the pace of world economic recovery.     Oil prices have found support from optimism that a potential turnaround in the economy could boost flagging fuel consumption, which sent the futures up to a fresh ten-month high of 75 dollars a barrel. However, oil failed to break the 75-dollar psychological barrier and fell back to around 70 dollars a barrel as investors were worried that the market might have gotten too far ahead of the economy.     In London, Brent Crude for October delivery tumbled 3.52 dollars, or 4.8 percent, to 69.27 dollars a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday met with visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, hailing fresh development of bilateral relationship and vowing closer collaboration. "Russia is one of the top agenda on China's diplomacy as we pay much attention to relations with Russia," Hu told Putin in their half an hour meeting in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.     Hu said this year was significant for China-Russia relations as both countries celebrated their 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.     Russia was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with China, days after the People's Republic of China was founded on Oct. 1, 1949. BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Industrial enterprises in 22 Chinese provinces, regions and municipalities generated 1.11 trillion yuan (163 billion U.S. dollars) of profit in the first seven months, down 17.3 percent from the same period last year, according to the latest official figures.     The decline is 3.8 percentage points lower than that in the first six months, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement Friday.     The revenues gathered by the industrial companies' core businesses reached 21.4 trillion yuan in the first seven months, up 0.9 percent from last year. The growth rate is 0.5 percentage points higher than that in the first six months.     Of the 39 industrial sectors, 14 achieved a rebound in profit growth, nine recorded a slow-down in profit declines and four turned slumping profit to rebounding profit.     The 22 regions refer to China's provinces, regions and municipalities minus Beijing, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Hunan, Guangdong, Anhui, Hainan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Tibet Autonomous Region.     The NBS used to publicize national industrial profit every two months, but began to issue the information monthly to improve monitoring frequency on economy this year. Only 22 provinces, regions or municipalities now provide monthly industrial profit data.

BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese food and drug regulators are required to report food accidents to their superiors and local health authorities within six hours, according to a government draft regulation Thursday.     The draft, issued by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), demands that once accidents occur involving 30 or more people, food and drug regulators at or above the county level should report them to their superiors and local health authorities within six hours.     With regard to food safety accidents that occur on campuses, during important nationwide festivities, involve 100 people or more, or kill one or more people, food and drug regulators should not only abide by the "six hour regulation," but also report them to the SFDA "in a timely manner," according to the draft.     Catering service runners, should they find food accidents, are asked to immediately stop using all suspicious food and cooking facilities and protect the site. They are also required to report to medical authorities and food regulators at or above the county level within two hours.     The draft regulation also stipulates that heads at schools, companies or government organs will be held accountable if food accidents occur twice in one year in their cafeterias.     The SFDA also asked food and drug regulators at all levels to formulate emergency plans to deal with food accidents based on local conditions.
