(KGTV) - An animal rights group is suing an organization purporting to be an animal rescue for allegedly violating a new California law.ALDF claims that Bark Adoptions, registered to an address in Menifee, Calif. has been supplying dogs to pet stores in “an unlawful scheme to sell and launder puppy mill puppies .”They claim it violates AB 485, a California law that was enacted on January 1 of 2019, sometimes referred to as the “Puppy Mill Ban.”The law prohibits pet stores from selling animals from breeders, instead, only allowing stores to sell dogs from shelters or rescue groups.The law specifically states that a “rescue group” must have tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS. Furthermore, it must be in a “cooperative agreement with at least one private or public shelter.”In February, 10News reported that Bark Adoptions had been supplying dogs to stores in San Diego County and Riverside County. Undercover video from the animal rights group, Companion Animal Protection Society, showed young, apparently purebred and designer puppies being sold for thousands of dollars.10News obtained interstate certificates of veterinary inspection that showed Bark Adoptions was getting the 8-10 week old puppies shipped from another purported rescue in Iowa, called Rescue Pets Iowa.The investigation by ALDF followed the same trail and alleged the defendants conveyed “those puppies to pet stores for profit.”“This is what we’re alleging in our lawsuit, that it amounts to nothing short of a puppy laundering operation that we’re gonna try to stop with a court order,” said Christopher Berry, a staff attorney with ALDF.10News reached out to Lara Abuzeid, an attorney for Bark Adoptions, but did not receive any comment on the lawsuit. 1788

(KGTV) -- Two people were injured after the driver of a Prius slid down the side of a hill in San Marcos Sunday morning.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 9:20 a.m. at San Elijo Road and Schoolhouse Way.The department says an 84-year-old driver was traveling too fast when he tried to make a turn, hit a curb, and slid down the hill.Both the driver and a 77-year-old female passenger were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, the department says. 554

(KGTV) — Cameras caught a thief wreaking havoc at an East County business park, culminating in several destructive acts after he realized he was locked in.Scott Trafton has seen the video countless times, but his emotions have yet to lessen."Aggravating and makes me angry," said Trafton, who owns XP Builders.Just before midnight last Thursday night, a truck is seen driving into a business park on Wheatlands Court. The truck, believed to be a Chevy Silverado, is parked in the dark for more than four hours, before a man emerges and heads toward Trafton's general contractor business. In the video, the man grabs items from the truck bed, before prying open a toolbox in the back. A knife at this side, the man would get away with more than a thousand dollars with of Trafton's tools. "It hurts being a small business. Every penny counts," said Trafton.Trafton is not the only victim. The thief left behind a trail of shattered truck windows and missing items."Basically took whatever wasn't bolted down," said Trafton.When the man went to leave, he was met by a gate, locked by someone who had left earlier. The camera spies him apparently chaining his truck to the fence and pulling forward, but he can't get the fence down."He then came over to another truck and broke a window. He then took a moving blanket to protect his truck and drove to another fence," said Trafton.In the video, you can see the flash of his lights, before his final act."He ran into the fence, spread it wide open and knocked it over," said Trafton.The repair bill will tally some ,000. SANTEE (CNS) - A dispute between a 50-year-old man and his 49-year-old sister at an East County trailer park escalated Tuesday into a stabbing that sent the woman to a hospital and left her brother under arrest, authorities reported.The assault in the 8700 block of North Magnolia Avenue in Santee was reported shortly before 6 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.Medics took the victim to a trauma center for treatment of non-life-threatening cuts to her face, Lt. Chris Steffen said.Deputies found the 6-foot-tall, 230-pound suspect, identified as Joseph Bodenstadt, on Mission Gorge Road and took him into custody.Bodenstadt was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated mayhem and resisting law enforcement personnel.The reason for the latter charge and the motive for the alleged assault were not immediately clear.The suspect was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon. 991

(KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection closed three lanes of traffic heading into the United States from Mexico Tuesday morning.In a statement, CBP said it was “to install and pre-position port hardening infrastructure equipment in preparation for the migrant caravan.”One lane of traffic was also closed at the Otay Mesa port of entry.It comes as active-duty troops have been working to add barricades and fencing as part of “Operation Secure Line.”On Tuesday, troops could be seen moving barriers covered with barbed wire along the border, periodically closing the southbound lanes into Mexico.In their statement, CBP officials warned “persons traveling northbound to the U.S. anticipate possible increased wait times because of the lane closures.”Even before the lanes were closed, wait times of six to seven hours had been reported at peak times in the standard lanes. Part of that was due to traffic control by authorities on the Mexican side.Travel as a pedestrian, however, has not appeared to be affected.Rebecca Fodor walked across Tuesday night and said it only took a few minutes. She said she did notice armed troops in camouflage uniforms.“It didn’t really change anything. I think they were just watching for anything suspicious,” she said.The lane closures will remain in effect indefinitely. CBP says reopening “is not anticipated to take place until sometime after people in the caravan arrive to the border.”  1469
