Now, posts with the tag #IAmVanessaGuillen are circulating online, as people share their own stories of sexual assault in the military.Billiekai Boughton with the San Diego Women Veterans Network said any conversation like this can bring up hard memories for female veterans. She said while many women have a positive experience in the military, four out of five females report harassment or assault. The goal of her group is to support women through any of this pain. She says this is important in a community like San Diego which has about 26,000 female veterans.“For those of us who have been in the military and have had negative experiences, this can be a memory (sic) of feeling unsafe,” said Boughton.The group’s website says the most common request of women veterans in San Diego is to meet other women veterans. Their primary goal is to create a community for female military veterans, while also encouraging community service and policy change, which encourages and embraces the positive traits female vets have to offer.“Our friends remind us how strong we are. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Deadly wildfires in California have burned more than 4 million acres this year, a new record for the number of acres burned in a single year.The previous record was two years ago when wildfires destroyed 1.67 million acres.California fire officials said the state hit the fearsome milestone Sunday with about two months still left in the fire season.More than 16,500 firefighters are working to contain at least 23 major wildfires across the state, officials said.Lightning strikes in mid-August caused some of the most devastating blazes and most of the damage has occurred since then.Since the beginning of the year, more than 8,200 wildfires have ignited, which have incinerated over 8,454 structures and killed 31 people. 754

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-  Tens of thousands of people in San Diego are on a waiting list for rental assistance.According to the San Diego Housing Commission, the Section 8 voucher program is currently helping about 15,000 families.With the need so great, Team 10 wanted to know if everyone getting help qualifies for a voucher.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Region needs 143,000 affordable homesUsing information from the San Diego Housing Commission, 10News compared 2017 data on family size and income limits to the maximum annual income limits allowed at the time. The comparison showed more than 20 cases where income was more than what was allowed at the time.Representatives with the housing commission said it is possible for people to be above the limit.  "We also have less than a quarter of one percent of our families who may exceed the 80 percent gross income, and that's a natural progression,” said Azucena Valladolid, Senior Vice President, Rental Assistance and Workforce Development. “Over the course of the time on our program, they may have increased their earnings.”RELATED: San Diego City Council passes affordable housing ordinanceValladolid explained that federal regulations require the San Diego Housing Commission to provide rental assistance to those families for an additional six months before they transition them off of the program.She said someone working for the housing commission determines whether or not someone qualifies for the voucher program. SAN DIEGO, CA — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego calls it the "Get It Done" App, but a Normal Heights man says he wants to know when work will get done."They block the sidewalk. They've ripped through my canopy. They've killed my two lemon trees," said Mike Scaglione as he stood in front of his home. He's referring to the damage caused by palm fronds that fall from two trees on city property he says are in serious need of maintenance. "It'll be seven years tomorrow that I've lived here and in that time frame I've probably picked up 3 or 4 hundred palm fronds."Scaglione said he's been trying for several months to get the city to keep up with the trimming of the two palms outside his home. "They say they're going to, or they direct me to somebody, but it just keeps going no where until it's a dead end." Scaglione says aside from the damaged to his property, he fears a potential for much worse. "Its kind of hard to see," he says, grabbing a palm frond from a pile collected near the trees, "but if you run your hand along here there's a pretty jagged toothed edge on here that if it was to land on somebody it could rip them pretty nicely."Scaglione has been using the city's Get It Done app. Past reports show crews have responded to clean up the fronds once they're on the ground. But when it came to a neighborhood tree trim last October he says, "They came through here and trimmed every tree on the block except mine." Scaglione said he asked the crews why. "They didn't have anything that could get up that high." Scaglione estimates the trees at 40 to 50 feet.In response to an inquiry by 10News, a city spokesperson sent an email explaining San Diego is on a two-year cycle for trimming city owned palm trees. Scaglione's block was on the schedule for October. But there's still more work to be done. So, does that mean the trees in front of Scaglione's home will be trimmed? "Yes," replied the spokesperson, "It is on the schedule." Though Mike feels like he's been here before."They would look into it when they were doing similar work in the neighborhood. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shutdown in mid-March, the zoo is back open. Visitors were happy to return to one of our city's jewels, even with some changes.For the last three months, visitors have been anxious to come to the grand reopening on Saturday."The turtles are kind of big and funny," laughed little Kitara.
