BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Beijing police have refuted a rumor that a school attack occurred Thursday morning at a primary school in the city.An Internet post said an attack was carried out at Xiwang Primary School at around 9 a.m. in Sibozi of Beijing's Changping District and the police evacuated all the students on campus."There is no such school in Sibozi. And we never received a report of a school attack," said a spokesman with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Thursday afternoon.The police have launched an investigation into the source of the rumor, said the spokesman.The rumor came after a series of recent school attacks in China's Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces.

BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China's banking regulator said on Sunday that banks should not extend loans to home buyers who intend to use the money for speculative purposes.Lenders should increase their awareness about financial risks and raise the down payment ratio "by a large margin", said the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) in a statement.Down payment ratio of a second or more houses should be no less than 40 percent and the interest rates should be strictly in line with risks, according to the statement.The action is the latest in a campaign by the central government to dampen China's overheated property market.

BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) -- As the curtain is about to rise on the upcoming second round of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED), to be held in Beijing on May 24-25, the world's attention will again focus on the Chinese capital.Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai said Thursday that in order to achieve positive results from the dialogue, China will strengthen communications, enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation with the United States.Analysts say this round of talks is of special significance because it signals a new consensus reached by the two sides after overcoming certain obstacles in their relationship.MOVING TOWARDS THE SAME DIRECTIONThe history of Sino-U.S. relations is full of twists and turns, so every step forward and every turn for the better is precious.The second S&ED will be another positive turn for both nations after they overcame a number of complicated problems in their relations.After Barack Obama took over the White House last year, Sino-U.S. relations got off to a good start. UNITED NATIONS, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday called on the UN Security Council to quickly respond to and take actions on Israel's deadly attack against a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza."China is shocked by Israel's attack on a multinational convoy carrying international aid to Gaza which resulted in heavy casualties," said Yang Tao, a counsellor of the Chinese permanent mission to the United Nations, at the 15-nation council's emergency meeting."We condemn Israel's actions targeting humanitarian workers and civilians," he said. "We support a quick response by the Security Council and take necessary actions."Yang also expressed serious concern about the "grim" humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, especially the Gaza Strip."We urge Israel immediately and fully implement Security Council resolution 1860, fully open border crossings, lift blockade on the Gaza Strip so as to allow unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and allow local people to achieve early recovery and restore a normal life," he added.The council was currently meeting behind closed doors to discuss the text of a draft presidential statement submitted by Turkey.
