BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has said that low-rent and affordable housing construction should be sped up to meet people's basic demands for living.The construction of public low-rent housing seeks to offer middle and low-income urban residents with adequate housing and affordable rents. This not only helps curb skyrocketing property prices in some cities, but is also conducive to bridge the income gap and assist in urbanization, Li told a national meeting which concluded on Saturday.While speaking at the two-day meeting, Li urged local authorities to create favorable taxation and financing policies to support such housing programs.He noted that private capital is also welcome to join the mission to diversify fund raising channels. Li urged different localities to explore their own methods based upon their unique conditions to carry out housing construction.Li also said that the construction and distribution of low-rent housing should be transparent and fair.Exorbitant housing prices in some cities have become a major complaint of Chinese citizens. Home prices in 70 large and medium-sized cities rose by 12.4 percent year on year in May, the National Bureau of Statistics said this week.However, the growth rate was 0.4 percentage points lower than that of April, as property sales in major big cities dropped following a string of government measures to rein in prices.

BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- China has approved 27 websites to sell medicine to individual consumers via the internet, the State Food and Drug Administration announced on its website on Tuesday .The administration stipulates that the 27 online pharmaceutical dealers could only sell over-the-counter medications to individual consumers, not to other businesses or medical facilities.According to a provisional regulation regarding the online transaction of drugs, those selling medications online must receive a license and put their license code on the front page of their transaction websites.The list of the 27 websites permitted to sell medications online is available on the administration's official website, www.sfda.gov.cn.

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Rising domestic iron ore production and slowing steel demand have hit some foreign miners and affected the global market, industry leaders said on Tuesday.China's iron ore imports dropped for the third straight month to 47.2 million tons in June, while spot prices have dropped to about 2 per ton after peaking at 5 per ton in April.The country's iron ore imports rose 4 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year, figures from the China Iron & Steel Association (CISA) showed. But domestic ore output increased by 28 percent year-on-year to 485 million tons in the same period, with output rising 37.6 percent in the second quarter from the first quarter."Rising domestic ore production is the main factor that drove down imports, largely impacting supply and demand on the global market," CISA vice-chairman Luo Bingsheng said.The figures form part of the bad news for international mining companies in Australia and Brazil that provide more than half of the ores to China.Iron ore imports from Australia, Brazil and India accounted for 62.3 percent of the country's total ore consumption last year.Brazilian company Vale already predicted in June that the share of imported ores in China would drop this year.About 40 percent of Chinese steel mills have to make cutbacks or put plants on maintenance, blaming increasing costs of imported ores and declining steel prices. Oversupply in the industry will continue to lower production, further driving down ore imports in the third quarter, Luo said.The CISA will also reduce the number of licensed iron ore importers to regulate the imported ore market."We will announce new rules for the industry soon, which include higher standards on the environment, energy consumption and capital requirement," Luo said.

He spoke of Zimbabwe's defence forces as a "good friend and partner" of People's Liberation Army (PLA).Since the establishment of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic ties 30 years ago, cooperation between the two nations had continuously deepened in the areas of politics, economics and trade, culture, education and health, Liang said.China expressed appreciation for Zimbabwe's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China's peaceful reunification, said Liang. He also thanked Zimbabwe for support on issues concerning China's core and major interests.Chiwenga expressed appreciation for China's long-standing support to Zimbabwe in various areas. HONG KONG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- China Construction Bank (CCB), the country's second largest bank, said Sunday its net profit in the first half of this year jumped 27 percent to reach 70.78 billion yuan (10.4 billion U.S. dollars) from a year earlier and its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio dropped to 1.22 percent.In a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange, CCB said its profit before tax amounted to 92.19 billion yuan, up 27.2 percent year on year.RAPID GROWTH IN H1Key contributors to the rapid year-on-year growth of net profit were increased credit supply, service and product innovation, and decreased impairment losses, according to the statement.Regarding credit supply, the bank said its average balance of interest-bearing assets rose by 18.26 percent in the first half, prompting net interest income to surge by 15.33 billion yuan, or 15 percent.On service and product innovation, CCB said net fee and commission income rose by 10.22 billion yuan, or 43.63 percent year on year, as a result of sustained rapid expansion of fee-based business.The Beijing-based lender also said its impairment losses fell by 2.995 billion yuan, or 23.36 percent, due to price rally in foreign currency debt securities with the improving market.CCB President Zhang Jianguo said in the statement that there were signs of recovery in developed economies and robust growth of emerging economies against the backdrop of a gradually warming-up global economy in the first half.China has sustained rapid economic growth, thanks to the government's ongoing stimulation of domestic demand, he said. Foreign trade has gradually improved, while investment and consumption spending have continued to expand at a fast pace, and China's overall financial market performed steadily in the first half.Amid the European sovereign debt crisis and the Chinese government's macro-control policies in the property sector, domestic capital and property markets have undergone noticeable adjustments and are experiencing increasing uncertainties about the future market direction, he said.According to the statement, CCB's net interest income was 117.8 billion yuan, an increase of 15.33 billion, or 14.96 percent year on year.But compared to the same period of 2009, CCB's net interest spread for the first half of this year had dropped by two basis points to 2.32 percent, largely because the yield of interest- bearing assets decreased more than the cost of interest-bearing liabilities, it said.In the first half, CCB's interest income surged by 11.22 billion yuan, or 6.66 percent year on year to 179.65 billion yuan. While the interest expense was 61.85 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 4.12 billion yuan, or 6.24 percent.The bank said its credit asset quality had steadily improved, with non-performing loans standing at 65.17 billion yuan by the end of June this year, a decrease of nearly 7 billion yuan over the end of 2009.
