In 2018, the Gwynn family's Poway home was put up for auction, with bids starting at .2 million, but failed to sell.While Gwynn's skills earned him a spot in the MLB Hall of Fame and millions over his career, bad investments forced him to file bankruptcy in 1987.Last year, the Gwynn family settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With California's theme parks and other family activities closed or restricted because of the pandemic, pumpkin patches have become an even more popular source of seasonal joy.The patches are able to operate under certain restrictions, though some operating rides may be at odds with public health orders.Cell phone video taken this week at The Pumpkin Station on Camino del Rio South in Mission Valley shows lots of visitors, some wearing masks and others not, and some small rides operating.The owner of the patch told ABC 10News they have a capacity limit of 250 people and require employees to undergo temperature checks and wear face masks. The owner said the location can't make customers wear face masks if they don't want to. As for the rides, the owner said calls to the San Diego County Health Department about whether rides are allowed were not returned. The owner said the rides are sanitized between each use as well.The county referred ABC 10News to California's guidelines for amusement and theme parks, which says all operations must be closed in the red and purple reopening tiers. San Diego County is currently in the red tier.As for other spots, like the Strawberry Fields in Carlsbad, there are no rides but there are inflatables.The owner of Carlsbad Lagoon tells ABC 10News that they've been working with the county ever since they reopened and that there are no specific guidelines for inflatables. The county says that as long as they are not completely closed, things like inflatables, slides, and obstacle courses are allowed.Carlsbad Lagoon added that they sanitize frequently and restrict admission to adhere to social distancing guidance. 1694

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Wednesday, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot reported that 26 additional Marine Corps Recruits had been sickened by E. coli.Currently 214 recruits among the more than 5500 recruits in training at both MCRD and the command’s field training facilities at Camp Pendleton are symptomatic of E. coli.The total number dropped from a reported 302 Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For the second time this week, Rancho Bernardo High School Principal Dave LeMaster met with concerned parents Thursday regarding Monday's school threat.Students arrived for class Monday morning to find violent threats spray-painted onto around 20 locations on campus. They all indicated a school shooting would happen that day at noon, with messages including "murder, blood, chaos" and "Florida was nothing".LeMaster told 10News police arrived quickly and within minutes determined there was no credible threat.An email notification went out to parents around 8:30am, after class had started, although LeMaster said if there was a danger, notification would have been sent out much sooner."We work with law enforcement to make sure the situation is secure and everyone is safe, and oftentimes, communication comes after that,” said Poway Unified School District spokesperson Christine Paik.Word of the incident quickly spread among students and their family members, which provides a challenge for administrators to inform parents."In the age of social media and texting, sometimes those unofficial communications will beat us to it ," Paik said. "But we have a responsibility to be accurate before we are able to put out those messages.”One parent told 10News she thinks the school should immediately notify parents of any threat to the school to give them the option of keeping their kids away from campus, but other parents worry that doing so could cause unnecessary panic and disruption.PUSD said it will work on improving the time it takes to send notifications to parents.
